Michigan State football predictions vs. Ohio State: Do we give Spartans any chance?

Free Press sports writers give their predictions for the Michigan State football game against Ohio State on Saturday (noon, ABC):

Chris Solari

The Spartans’ mojo shows early, much like it did a year ago in Columbus. Expect MSU’s Rocky Lombardi to air it out often, but the Buckeyes to adjust and expect it. That forces the Spartans to try and replicate the rushing performance they did in upsetting Northwestern, but with less success against a significantly more stout OSU defensive line. The Buckeyes’ offense finds its rhythm late in the first half and pulls away from there. Pick: Ohio State 38, Michigan State 17

These aren’t your daddy’s Buckeyes. They give up points. They’re usually good for a loss each Big Ten season. That should’ve been Indiana. Though the Spartans will compete for a moment. Pick: Ohio State 34, Michigan State 16

The Spartans have had a bipolar season thus far – good to great in some games and downright terrible in others. While Michigan State figures to play better than it has in its three losses, it will have a tough time suppressing an Ohio State team that has a lot to prove as it makes its case for a College Football Playoff berth. Pick: Ohio State 42, Michigan State 20
