Michigan State football: Khary Crump's tunnel fight probation cut short for good behavior
Khary Crump’s legal matters are resolved.
A judge Thursday approved the Michigan State football player's early discharge from his probation stemming from the tunnel fight at Michigan in October, his attorney Mike Nichols told the Free Press.
Judge Miriam Perry of the 15th District Court in Ann Arbor also dismissed misdemeanor charges of assault/battery and disorderly conduct person-jostling, and the records become non-public under the Holmes Youthful Trainee Act. The 21-year-old originally accepted a plea deal in January, with a sentence of 12 months probation. He also completed his required 80 hours of community service by April.

“He's officially off paper. Now all he has to worry about is grades and reps,” Nichols said Friday. “Those are kind of good moments. Everybody was proud of KJ.”
Crump, a defensive back from Los Angeles, still must serve an additional eight-game suspension to open this season after missing the Spartans' final four games of 2022. Crump swung his helmet and hit U-M player Gemon Green during a postgame altercation Oct. 29 in the Michigan Stadium tunnel following the Wolverines’ 29-7 victory.
MSU head coach Mel Tucker suspended Crump and seven of his teammates after the incident, but Tucker reinstated the others after the season ended. Crump also missed spring workouts while suspended before Tucker reinstated him to the program May 1. The redshirt junior, who transferred to MSU from Arizona before the 2021 season, returned to practice Aug. 3 for the first time since October when the Spartans opened preseason camp.
Crump will be eligible to return to game action Nov. 4 at home against Nebraska, barring a decision by the Big Ten lowering Crump’s additional suspension. MSU hosts Michigan two weeks before that, on Oct. 21.
“Everybody’s got Nov. 4 circled on the calendar,” Nichols said.
