Michigan high school football AP rankings after Week 8, where Northern Michigan teams stand

Pretty soon, where teams are ranked within the weekly Associated Press Michigan High School Football Polls won’t really matter.

It’ll be put up, or shut up time on the field.

But, for now, we’ve still got the AP Poll to dissect and the latest statewide rankings have some Northern Michigan teams moving on up.

Gaylord jumped up to No. 3 within Division 3 thanks to their 8-0 start and win over Division 7 No. 1 ranked Jackson Lumen Christi.

That ranking for the Blue Devils matches their highest in program history, when they also finished the 2002 season 9-0 and ranked No. 3 in Class 3. Gaylord also earned a 9-0 record in 2001.

Russell Hush and the Gaylord Blue Devils can complete an undefeated regular season and BNC title in Week 9, while also likely topping or matching their highest final AP ranking ever.

In Week 9, the Blue Devils will try to complete another 9-0 season with a win at Sault Ste. Marie, which will also deliver an outright Big North Conference championship to the Blue Devils.

Within Division 7, Charlevoix (7-1) also jumped up to No. 8 within the poll, a week after entering the rankings for the first time this season at No. 9.

Charlevoix will try to complete a fourth straight eight-win season this week, something that’s never been done within the program. Heading to town will be Calumet after a Harbor Springs forfeit.

Despite topping honorable mention Frankfort for the Legends Division title last week, East Jordan (7-1) dropped out of the honorable mention list in Division 8.

Already with their most wins since 1999, East Jordan will be trying for their first eight-win season since that same year, as they welcome Elk Rapids in Week 9.

Within the 8-Player rankings, Pickford (8-0) remained at No. 1 in Division 1, then St. Ignace (7-1) and Inland Lakes (7-1) also came in ranked No. 5 and No. 7, respectively.
