Michigan football makes top five for 4-star safety

While Michigan football continues to crush 2024 recruiting — the Wolverines have the No. 1 class — the maize and blue lost two safeties recently to the transfer portal.

One was co-starter R.J. Moten, who inexplicably entered the portal after playing with the Wolverines during the spring game and participating in the media availability after the game.

Naturally after losing a couple of safeties, Michigan is hoping to replenish the depth at the position. The Wolverines already have four-star Jacob Oden in the fold for 2024, and it appears the maize and blue are in on another safety.

Four-star Dejuan Lane announced his top five schools, and Michigan made the list along with Notre Dame, Penn State, Maryland and Georgia.

Lane hails from Baltimore (Maryland) Gilman. According to the 247Sports Composite, Lane is the 289th-ranked player in the country, the 27th-ranked safety and the eighth-ranked player in Maryland.

Michigan must have made a nice impression on the 6-foot-3 prospect since it made the top five after offering Lane back on April 13.

There are no predictions on where Lane might land.
