Miami Dolphins predictions: The Eagles are favored, but who do NFL experts think will win?

Sunday night could be a preview of the 2024 Super Bowl. Who will win: the 5-1 Miami Dolphins or the 5-1 Philadelphia Eagles?

The Dolphins have shown they don't need dynamic rookie De'Von Achane to continue their assault on the NFL record books. In last week's win over the Carolina Panthers, Tua Tagovailoa threw for 262 yards and three touchdowns as Tyreek Hill put up yet another 150-yard receiving game. Raheem Mostert ran for 115 yards and two scores, adding another TD receiving. Jalen Ramsey won't be back yet (right?), but Jaelan Phillips could be to boost Vic Fangio's defense.

And the defense is going to need all the help it can get to contain Jalen Hurts, A.J. Brown, DeVonta Smith and the Eagles. Philly is coming off a gut-wrenching 20-14 loss to the New York Jets, a game that did not feature a single "tush push." Star tackle Lane Johnson didn't play most of the game after injuring his ankle, and cornerback Darius Slay is recovering from a knee injury.

So who wins the Sunday night showdown? Here's a look at what NFL reporters and analysts predict:

Lorenzo Reyes, USA TODAY: Dolphins 29-21

"Miami’s speed is an issue that I think makes this an incredibly difficult matchup for Philly’s defense, even though it is more than formidable. I think the difference will be on the other side, where the Dolphins are shaky on defense, but can generate pressure in Vic Fangio’s scheme. And, the Eagles’ offensive line has been uncharacteristically average this season."

Vinnie Iyer, Sporting News: Eagles 27-24

"The Dolphins' offense seems unstoppable while the Eagles' offense seems just a little dysfunctional and underachieving. But this is a tough spot for Miami as Philadelphia can contain the running game and stop big plays and with Xavien Howard banged up, the Eagles' wide receivers can dominate. A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith will be motivated to prove they are a better big-play and Alabama technician duo than Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle. It's also another chance for Jalen Hurts to outduel Tide successor Tua Tagovailoa."

Pete Prisco, CBS Sports: Eagles 35-29

"This is the game of the week, featuring two 5-1 teams. The Eagles are coming off a bad loss to the Jets on the road, while the Dolphins have won the last two over bad teams. The Eagles will regroup here, but I think both teams will score a lot. This will be a fun shootout. But the Eagles take it."

Ian Hanford, Bleacher Report: Eagles win

Hanford was one of two who went against the Bleacher Report consensus pick of the Dophins. "The Dolphins offense is as scary as it gets with Mike McDaniel seemingly throwing in a new wrinkle every week for Tua Tagovailoa, Tyreek Hill and Co. to have some fun with," he explained, "but I think they're in for a challenge this week. Yes, Miami is putting up historic numbers offensively, but its four highest point totals this year came against the Panthers, Giants, Chargers and Broncos. Not exactly a defensive murderer's row there.

"The Eagles have struggled to stop the pass, but they do still stop the run very well, which should at least force Miami to be more one-dimensional. Factor in a windy forecast, and Miami's offense is up for a stiffer test than usual."

Tom Blair, NFL.com: Dolphins 33-27

"The Dolphins have faced another top-tier NFL team once so far this season, in Week 4, and they could not slow a Buffalo offense that was clicking. The Eagles offense is not doing that. If I knew for sure Jalen Hurts and Co. would operate at their best, I'd likely go with them at home. At this point, I am not ready to say they'll keep up with the NFL's top passing and rushing outfit, not with Philly's pass defense (20th in the NFL) looking like a vulnerability."

Bill Bender, Sporting News: Eagles 34-30

"Tua Tagovailoa and Jalen Hurts meet in an anticipated matchup between former Alabama quarterbacks. Tagovailoa took four sacks in Miami's only loss this season, and the Eagles are sure to dial up the pressure as a result. Hurts – who has struggled with interceptions – will have a bounce-back game, and the defense will break a three-game turnover drought. Miami will be a popular upset pick here, but we'll stick with the home team coming off an embarrassing loss to the Jets."

John Breech, CBS Sports: Dolphins 34-27

"This game feels like it's going to come down to how well the Dolphins offensive line can protect Tua Tagovailoa. If Tua is getting time to throw, he's going to torch the Eagles secondary. The Dolphins are averaging 316.8 passing yards per game this year, which is the most in the NFL BY FAR (No other team is even averaging 270 yards per game).

"Although I think the Dolphins will be able to move the ball with ease, I also think the Eagles are going to have some success, which is why I think this game is going to be a shootout, and as a general rule, I will never pick against the highest-scoring team in the NFL when I'm trying to predict the winner of a shootout. In related news, the Dolphins are the highest-scoring team in the NFL."
