The Mets look to salvage the final game of their three-game series against the Washington Nationals at Citi Field on Thursday at 7:10 p.m. on SNY.

Mets Notes

  • With their loss on Wednesday night, the Mets have lost four consecutive games for the first time under manager Buck Showalter

  • New York is looking to avoid its second sweep of the season and its first sweep at home in 2023. The last time the Mets were swept by the Nationals was April 21-23, 2017 at Citi Field

  • After two more hits last night, Jeff McNeil is now batting .417 (15-for-36) over his last 10 games. During that stretch he has a home run, two doubles, four walks, three RBI and has scored six times

  • David Robertson has appeared in 10 games this season, allowing just one run in 10.1 innings. He has been a stalwart at the back of the bullpen, especially with the injury to Edwin Diaz

Who is starting for the Mets?

Joey Lucchesi, who is 1-0 with a 0.00 ERA (0.86 WHIP) after going seven scoreless innings against the San Francisco Giants on April 21 in his season debut. He struck out nine batters and gave up just four hits and two walks.

It was the left-hander's first appearance in the majors since June 18, 2021 after he missed the entire 2022 season recovering from Tommy John surgery.

Before his injury, Lucchesi went 1-4 with a 4.46 ERA (1.17 WHIP) in 11 games (eight starts) in his first season with the Mets in 2021.

Who is starting for the Nationals?

Trevor Williams, who is 1-1 with a 3.38 ERA (1.08 WHIP) with 13 strikeouts over 21.1 innings through four starts.

The former Met signed with the Nationals this offseason and is getting the chance to start every five days after being utilized as a long reliever or spot-starter during his time in New York -- a role he did exceptionally well.

Upcoming schedule

The Mets will welcome the Atlanta Braves for a four-game weekend wraparound series on Friday at 7:10 p.m.

Two southpaws will go head-to-head as David Peterson faces Max Fried.
