Mets sign INF Rylan Bannon to minor league deal with spring training invite

The Mets announced the signing of infielder Rylan Bannon to a minor league contract with an invitation to major league spring training on Monday.

Bannon, 27, has appeared in 575 games in the minors and seven games in the big leagues during his six-year professional career.

He appeared in 95 games for Triple-A Sugar Land of the Houston Astros organization a year ago, slashing .241/.360/.449 for an .810 OPS. He smacked 12 doubles, 18 home runs and 56 RBI while walking 63 times to 90 strikeouts.

He has two hits in 21 MLB plate appearances, collecting his first career hit for the Orioles off ex-Met Steven Matz in St. Louis.

Selected by Los Angeles in the eighth round of the 2017 MLB Draft, Bannon was one of five players the Dodgers traded to the Baltimore Orioles for Manny Machado at the 2018 All-Star break.

After failing to make his mark in Baltimore's system, he would bounce around baseball, being claimed by the Dodgers, Braves and Cubs before latching on with Houston in December 2022.

He is the latest veteran infielder the Mets have signed this offseason to a minor league deal with an MLB spring training invite after Jose Iglesias agreed to a deal last week.
