Mets left-hander Jose Quintana did not have the rehab start he and the organization hoped for.

Quintana, making his fourth rehab start in the minors and first with Triple-A Syracuse, went just 2.2 innings while giving up four hits, two runs, three walks and striking out just two. The Mets hoped to stretch out the 34-year-old to five innings, but his elevated pitch count did not allow it.

The Colombia native threw 64 pitches (33 strikes) in Friday's start, not helped by the three walks he gave up in the third inning.

In four starts in the minors, Quintana has gone 11.2 innings pitched while giving up just three runs. In his last start, this past Sunday with High-A Brooklyn, Quintana went four innings giving up just one run and two hits while striking out five.

David Peterson was called up on June 27 to take Tylor Megill's spot in the Mets rotation until Quintana is ready to return. It's unclear when that will be, but if this is the southpaw's final rehab start he could technically return for the team's weekend series against the San Diego Padres, which starts next Friday.
