The Mets are expected to hire Eric Hinske as their assistant hitting coach, per multiple reports.
Hinske will work under Jeremy Barnes, who was named hitting coach earlier this offseason when Eric Chavez (who was the Mets' hitting coach in 2022, during what was his first season on the coaching staff) was named the bench coach for the 2023 season.
Hinske, 45, played in the majors from 2002 to 2013, and began his MLB coaching career in 2014 for the Chicago Cubs, where he worked until 2017 -- initially as a first base coach before becoming the assistant hitting coach.
He was then hired by the Los Angeles Angels (under then-GM Billy Eppler) to be their hitting coach for the 2018 season.
From 2019 to 2021, Hinske was the Arizona Diamondbacks' assistant hitting coach.
