Mets have created a dance team for 2024 MLB season

In January, the Mets announced plans to create a dance team for the 2024 MLB season. That team, the Queens Crew, is now assembled.

The dance crew, which "will be part of freestyle and choreographed hip-hop performances on gamedays" at Citi Field, is co-ed and made up of 19 members.

"I had to think about what makes Queens, Queens and what makes New York, New York," Mets VP of marketing Trisha Donlin told The New York Post. "That’s where I thought about diversity, different performance styles, street dancing. Looking at subway performers, looking at the fact that we have the greatest talent pool in the United States with Broadway. All of that played into the identity of this team."

According to The Post, the team will perform before games and between innings this season.

Mets games have been livelier recently, including Friday night games that often feature a live DJ.

Over the weekend, Mets owner Steve Cohen responded to a Yankees fan on Twitter who had an issue with the dance team being created.

"This is baseball... this isn't the nba or nfl," the fan said. "There's not halftime in this game. I don't see how a dance team is necessary?"

In response, Cohen quipped:

"Excellent point. I forgot how serious baseball is relative to other sports."
