Mendon baseball, softball teams win at Burr Oak

BURR OAK - The Mendon baseball and softball teams each picked up a road victory at Burr Oak on Tuesday evening. Rain threatened and hung around for a little bit in the early parts of the contests, but each was able to finish without being halted.

In softball action, the Lady Hornets won 11-1. Mendon was newly minted as the No. 5 team in the latest Michigan High School Softball Coaches Association poll, which was released on Tuesday. The Lady Hornets gave Burr Oak just its second loss on the season, pushing the Bobcats to 6-2. Mendon improved to 14-1.

Four runs in the first plus three in the second, two in the fourth and one each in the sixth and seventh innings propelled Mendon to the win.

Jadyn Samson registered five hits with one RBI in the game. Allen had four hits, including a home run, and drove in four. Taya Bingaman clubbed two hits with four RBIs and Kaidee Gonser had a run-scoring hit. Brielle Bailey doubled, Cienna Nightingale and Abby Butler both registered one hit.

Allen struck out 12 inside the circle for the win.

Burr Oak got two base hits from Braylyn Hernandez in the game. Amy Ledyard scored the lone run for the Bobcats in the third.

Root took the loss inside the circle, but struck out 10 Mendon hitters.

In the baseball game, Mendon secured a win, 23-1.

The Hornets scored 19 runs in the first inning and added four more in the second. Burr Oak scored its run in the third.

Cam Bingaman recorded three hits and drove in four. Brayden Crites had two hits and drove in five while Jackson Kindig hit a home run, driving in three total runs. Carter Huston also had a run-scoring hit for the Hornets.

Crites, Kindig and Bingaman combined to strike out six.
