Memphis Grizzlies trade Steven Adams to Houston Rockets for Victor Oladipo, picks

The Memphis Grizzlies kicked off what's expected to be a busy trade deadline period on Thursday night, trading center Steven Adams to the Houston Rockets for Victor Oladipo and three second round picks.

Adams was traded to the Grizzlies in 2021 and served as the team's starting center until he was injured in 2023. He was ruled out for the entire season in October and has one year left on his contract.

Oladipo was traded to the Rockets in the offseason but has also been injured and hasn't played this year. He will be a free agent after this season.

The Grizzlies will also have the picks available to make more moves before the NBA trade deadline on Feb. 8. Memphis (18-29) has dealt with a slew of injuries this season and has been without Adams and Ja Morant for most of the season. Desmond Bane, Marcus Smart and Derrick Rose have also missed time.

Steven Adams stats

Adams averaged 8.6 points and 11.5 rebounds per game during the 2022-2023 season before he was injured in Phoenix on Jan. 22 and never returned. He played in two preseason games this season before being ruled out with a PCL injury.

For his career, Adams averages 9.2 points and 8.2 rebounds per game.

Victor Oladipo stats

Oladipo averaged 10.7 points and 3.5 rebounds per game in 42 games for the Heat in 2022-2023. He also had a first stint with Houston in 2020-2021 and also spent time with the Magic, Thunder and Pacers during his career.

He's averaging 16.9 points per game during his career.
