Memphis Grizzlies have no NBA All-Star weekend representation for first time since 2016

The Memphis Grizzlies will not have any representation at NBA All-Star weekend for the first time since 2016.

All-Star reserves were announced on Thursday, and no Grizzlies player made the cut. Jaren Jackson Jr. had the best shot but fell short, and Ja Morant only played nine games before suffering a season-ending injury to miss out on his third straight selection. Desmond Bane, who generated All-Star buzz early in the season but has been out with an ankle injury, also missed out.

The Grizzlies also did not have any player selected to the Rising Stars game. Memphis had had at least one player selected to the All-Star game or Rising Stars game every year since 2016, starting with Marc Gasol's All-Star selection in 2017 and Dillon Brooks' Rising Stars selection in 2018.

Spurred on by significant fan support even though he spent most of the season off the court, Morant had finished ninth in All-Star starter voting. He missed the first 25 games of the season while he was suspended for conduct detrimental to the league, then helped the Grizzlies to a 6-3 record in nine games he played after his return.

He was ruled out for the season with a shoulder injury in early January.

The Grizzlies have struggled this season with injuries to so many key players and are 18-29 just past the season's halfway point.
