Memphis basketball score vs. FAU, March Madness: Live updates for Penny Hardaway's Tigers

COLUMBUS, Ohio − Memphis basketball kicks off its 2023 March Madness campaign against FAU on Friday.

The No. 24 Tigers (26-8) hope to advance to the second round with a win over the Conference-USA champion Owls (31-3). It will be the second meeting all-time between the two schools, and it marks just the second NCAA tournament appearance for FAU.

All-American point guard Kendric Davis (22.1 ppg, 5.6 apg) and first-team all-AAC forward DeAndre Williams (17.8 ppg, 8 rpg) lead Penny Hardaway's team. Johnell Davis (13.5 ppg) and Alijah Martin (13.2 ppg) power FAU's balanced offensive attack.

FINAL: FAU's Nick Boyd gets a unimpeded drive and layup in front of a few Tigers to put the Owls ahead with 2.6 seconds left. Then, Alex Lomax opts for a pass at midcourt instead of a heave as time expired.

5.5 seconds left: Memphis turns the ball over at midcourt, then FAU does the same near the basket. Memphis tries to call timeout before the tie-up, but it is ruled a jumpball. Possession arrow to FAU.

Should have been a Memphis timeout signaled by Alex Lomax. But it was a scramble.
