Memphis area girls basketball rankings: Newcomer enters this week

The Tennessee girls high school basketball season is back on schedule after snow and ice disrupted the season two weeks ago. Here’s a look at this week girls basketball rankings.

1. Bartlett (17-9): Carrington Jones scored 22 points in the Panthers’ win over Houston last week, making it two-straight wins. Last week’s ranking: No. 1.

2. Memphis East (17-4): Tristan Spearman scored 41 points for the Mustangs in their 82-79 overtime win over Whitehaven last week. They move up one spot ahead of their three region games. Last week’s ranking: No. 3.

3. Whitehaven (14-5): The Tigers lost to Memphis East on Friday night and dropped to No. 3 in this week’s rankings. They have games against White Station, Overton and Kingsbury this week. Last week’s ranking: No. 2.

4. Collierville (19-8): Carlyn Burdette and Hilary Shikuku scored 22 and 23 points, respectively, helping the Dragons defeat Southwind last week. That’s now three straight wins for Collierville. Last week’s ranking: No. 4.

5. Center Hill (18-4): The Mustangs beat Olive Branch 44-22 on Friday night for their fourth straight win. They wrap up their season against Lake Cormorant, Grenada and South Panola this week. Last week’s ranking: No. 5.

6. Hutchison (17-2): Tyler Jones scored 23 points in the Sting’s win over St. Agnes last week. They have games against St. Mary’s and St. Benedict this week. Last week’s ranking: No. 6.

7. Lewisburg (17-7): Allie Carroll combined for 29 points and 21 rebounds in two games for the Patriots helping them spit games against Hernando and Oxford last week. Last week’s ranking. No. 7.

8. Middle College (18-2): The Bulldogs have won the last six games and move up to No. 8 in this week’s rankings. Last week’s ranking: No. 10.

9. Houston (13-8): Houston has lost five of the last seven games, including three straight. The Mustangs look to get back on track this week against Germantown and Collierville. Last week’s ranking: No. 8.

10. Hernando (16-5): The Tigers debut this week in the area girls rankings after winning their last six games. They close out the regular season against DeSoto Central, Horn Lake and Oxford this week. Last week’s ranking: Not ranked.
