Meet the All-Upstate high school boys and girls swim teams for 2023-24

Meet the All-Upstate high school boys and girls swim teams covering the Greenville, Spartanburg, Anderson and Pickens areas.

All-Upstate boys swimming

First team

Brett Bailey, Sr., Dorman: Bailey won Class AAAAA state championships in the 100 butterfly (49.50) and 100 breaststroke (27.27). He also helped the 200 medley relay team finish first.

Jimmy Beeson, So., Greer Middle College: Beeson won the Class AAA state championship in the 100 butterfly (49.71) and was second in the 100 backstroke (51.29) as Greer Middle College finished second overall.

Dalton Davis, Sr., Greer Middle College: Davis won the Class AAA state championship in the 100 breaststroke (58.18) and was second in the 100 butterfly (50.76).

Joey Lilley, Sr., Eastside: Lilley led Eastside to the Class AAAA state title, He won the 50 freestyle (21.33) and was second in the 100 freestyle (46.79). He also was the anchor leg of the first-place relay teams in the 400 freestyle and 200 medley.

Walker Simpson, So., St. Joseph’s: Simpson led St. Joseph’s to the Class AAA state championship. He was second in the 200 individual medley (1:56.81) and 500 freestyle (4:45.99). He was on the third-place 400 freestyle relay team.

Maddex Ternes, So., Greer Middle College: Ternes won Class AAA state championships in the 200 individual medley (1:52.59) and 500 freestyle (4:38.23).

All-Upstate girls swimming

First team

Lilly Gault Abdella, Jr., JL Mann: Abdella won Class AAAAA state championships in the 200 freestyle (1:50.21) and 500 freestyle (5:56.39). She was also anchor of the third-place 400 freestyle relay team.

Lilla Bognar, Jr., Eastside: Bognar won state championships in the 100 backstroke (53.28) and 200 individual medley (2:00.75) as Eastside took the Class AAAA title. She was on the first-place relay teams in the 400 freestyle and 200 medley.

Caroline Byers, Jr., Spartanburg: Byers won the Class AAAAA state championship in the 100 breaststroke (1:04.41) and was second in the 200 individual medley (2:06.14).

Karinne Everly, Sr., Christ Church: Everly won the Class AAA state championship in the 50 freestyle (24.49) and was third in the 100 butterfly (57.43).

Grace Hunt, So., Southside Christian: Hunt won the Class AAA state championship in 100 breaststroke (1:03.36) with the Upstate’s fastest time in that event covering all classifications. She was third in 200 individual medley.

Hayden Penny, Sr., Eastside: Penny won state championships in the 200 freestyle (1:48.93) and 500 freestyle (4:47.58). She was also on Eastside’s first-place relay teams in the 200 freestyle and 400 freestyle.
