Meet the Lubbock Avalanche-Journal's 2024 girls basketball Super Team

Here is the Lubbock Avalanche-Journal's girls basketball Super Team for the 2023-24 season. Selections were based on nominations by area coaches.

NEWCOMER OF THE YEAR

Linley Wright, So., guard, Shallowater

Wright, the District 2-3A newcomer of the year, got better throughout the season. She ended on the all-state tournament team following Shallowater's championship. She was also the Region I-3A tournament MVP.

The 5-foot-2 guard averaged 9.5 points, 2.2 assists and 2.8 steals. She shot 74% from the free-throw line.

Wright was a member of the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches Class 3A all-state team.

COACH OF THE YEAR

Kurt Richardson, Shallowater

In his second year at the helm, Richardson led Shallowater to its third state title. The undersized and youthful Fillies capped a storybook playoff run with a 54-49 overtime victory over Huntington.

Shallowater started district 1-3 before righting the ship. The Fillies also overcame an injury to veteran Molly Salinas late in the season.

Shallowater finished 28-12, winning 14 of its final 15 games.

FIRST TEAM

Addy Burns, Sr., guard, New Home

Burns was selected as TABC all-state after averaging 19.7 points, 6.8 rebounds and 3.5 assists.

Ambrosia Cole, So., guard, Monterey

Cole, a TABC all-region selection, averaged 18.8 points, 5.4 rebounds, 3.9 assists and 1.7 steals.

Majik Esquivel, Sr., guard, Lubbock-Cooper

Esquivel averaged 21.9 points, 3.0 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 2.5 steals to make the TABC all-region team.

Abbi Holder, Sr., guard, Frenship

Holder was a TABC all-region selection with averages of 14.5 points, 4.0 rebounds, 5.8 assists and 2.8 steals.

Mecailin Marshall, Jr., guard, Abernathy

Marshall made the TABC all-state team after averaging 22.0 points, 7.0 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 3.0 steals.

SPARKS OFF THE BENCH

Addisyn Bollinger, So., guard/forward, Frenship

Bollinger posted 16.1 points per game on 50% shooting, including 40% from 3-point range. She also averaged 4.2 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 1.2 steals.

Raegan Lee, Jr., forward, Lubbock Christian

Lee led the Eagles to their fourth consecutive state championship, averaging 17.2 points, 6.8 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 3.6 steals.

Allie McCormick, Jr., guard, Sundown

McCormick, a TABC all-region pick, averaged 22.4 points, 3.8 rebounds, 4.6 assists, and 6.5 steals. She was the district defensive MVP.

Lily Moyers, Sr., guard, Idalou

Moyers made the TABC all-region team with averages of 15.6 points, 6.2 rebounds and 3.6 assists. She was the district co-MVP.

Zay Santos, Sr., guard, Floydada

Santos, a TABC all-region selection, averaged 17.8 points, 6.9 rebounds and 8.2 assists.

SECOND TEAM

Makylee Baldwin, Jr., forward, Farwell

Baldwin was a TABC all-state selection with averages of 13.2 points, 4.1 rebounds, 1.9 assists and 3.3 steals per game.

Abby Boyce, Sr., post, Frenship

Boyce averaged 10.0 points, 9.9 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 1.2 steals.

Kira Fox, Sr., forward, Idalou

Fox was a TABC all-state selection and the district defensive MVP. She averaged 11.2 points and 9.5 rebounds.

Kamille Reynolds, Jr., guard, Lubbock High

Reynolds averaged 14.1 points, 5.5 rebounds, 1.5 assists and 2.5 steals. She shot 77.2% from the free-throw line.

Landri Richey, Jr., guard, Farwell

Richey averaged 10.1 points, 3.3 rebounds, 4.0 assists, 3.3 steals and 2.9 blocks to earn TABC all-state honors.

SPARKS OFF THE BENCH

Macie Burkhead, So., post, New Deal

Burkhead averaged 15.0 points and 11.0 rebounds.

Lily Davis, Sr., guard, Plains

Davis was a TABC all-region selection after averaging 14.8 points, 3.4 rebounds and 2.3 assists.

Reagan Derington, Sr., guard, Lamesa

Derington, who posted a quadruple-double and four triple-doubles, averaged 11.2 points, 6.0 rebounds, 10.1 assists and 6.5 steals.

Sydney Roberts, Sr., guard, Denver City

Roberts averaged 13.1 points, 4.0 rebounds and 3.5 assists.

Carly Tienda, Sr., guard, Levelland

Tienda averaged 11.2 points, 3.1 rebounds, 2.8 assists and 3.6 steals to earn a spot on the TABC all-region team.

THIRD TEAM

Aubrey Bandy, Sr., forward, Ropes

Bandy, a TABC all-region selection, averaged 10.4 points, 6.7 rebounds and 2.4 assists. She shot 43% from 3-point range.

Audi Castillo, Jr., forward, Littlefield

Castillo posted 12.0 points, 5.1 rebounds, 1.0 assist and 0.4 blocks per game.

Carisa Cortez, Sr., guard, Lubbock-Cooper

Cortez became the winningest player in program history, finishing with 112. She averaged 12.0 points, 2.5 rebounds, 4.5 assists and 2.0 steals.

Reagan Guerra, Sr., post, Plains

Guerra averaged 11.4 points, 12.8 rebounds and 2.0 assists.

Payton Spann, So., guard, Southcrest

Spann was a TAPPS all-state first team selection and made the all-state tournament team. The district MVP averaged 20.9 points to surpass 1,200 for her career.

SPARKS OFF THE BENCH

Abby Dallas, So., guard, Lubbock-Cooper Liberty

Dallas averaged 9.4 points, 9.0 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 2.0 blocks.

Mariyah Espinosa, Sr., guard, Hale Center

Espinosa averaged 14.0 points, 5.0 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 4.0 steals.

Izzy Palmer, Jr., guard, Lubbock High

Palmer made the all-district first team with averages of 11.7 points, 2.3 rebounds, 1.6 assists and 1.7 steals. She shot 32.2% from 3-point range and 80% on free throws.

Addison Pitts, Sr., post, Shallowater

Pitts made the all-region team with averages of 7.3 points and 6.5 rebounds, including 109 offensive boards. She shot 51.4% from the field and 76% on free throws.

Londyn Shain, Sr., guard, Seminole

Shain made the all-region team.
