The Enquirer is proud to introduce Gordon Wittenmyer as the new beat writer covering the Cincinnati Reds.

Wittenmyer, a Seattle-area native, is a veteran baseball writer who most recently worked for NBC Sports in Chicago. The Reds will be the fifth team Wittenmyer's covered in his career, which includes time spent on the beat covering the Seattle Mariners, Los Angeles Angels, Minnesota Twins and Chicago Cubs.

As far as covering the Reds, Wittenmyer says it's somewhat of a full-circle moment because Cincinnati was his favorite team when he started collecting baseball cards in the '70s.

Johnny Bench, Dave Concepcion, Joe Morgan and Pete Rose were all All-Stars in 1975.

As far as what you can expect from Wittenmyer on the beat, here's what he wants you to know:

"The truth," Wittenmyer said. "It’s not always pretty. People don’t always like hearing it, but that’s my priority. I’m there to represent the fans, ask the questions they don’t have the access to ask and to find the answers they want."

Wittenmyer replaces Bobby Nightengale, who moved to Minneapolis to cover his hometown Twins.

"We're excited to have Gordon join the team," said Jason Hoffman, senior editor for sports. "I look forward to what he can bring to the beat and I know our audience will benefit from his experience and unique approach to covering the team."
