Meet the new Atlanta Braves play-by-play announcer with Georgia ties

The Atlanta Braves welcomed their new play-by-play voice on Thursday.

Brandon Gaudin will take over for Chip Caray, who left this offseason to take over the same job for the St. Louis Cardinals.

Gaudin was the voice of Georgia Tech football, men’s basketball and baseball from 2013 to 2016 and has remained an Atlanta resident ever since, according to a news release.

“Today is the realization of a childhood dream,” said Gaudin. “I get to be behind the mic for the team I grew up idolizing. And the team who fostered my love for both sports and broadcasting. I’m grateful to both the Braves and Bally Sports for this incredible opportunity. I cannot wait to work alongside this team and talented broadcast crew.”

The newly-hired Gaudin will work alongside former Braves outfielder Jeff Francour and others in the broadcast booth for the 2023 season.

In a tweet reacting to the news, Gaudin said he grew up “idolizing” the team in his native Evansville, Indiana. He also described a story of when he sent a letter to his idol, former Braves announcer Skip Caray.

“I wrote Skip Caray this letter when I was 13 (excuse the typos). I checked the mailbox every day hoping for a reply. It came a couple months later. I still remember opening it. I finally got to meet Skip at a game at Turner in 98 along with my cousin Jake. I was star struck.”

Gaudin also serves as the play-by-play voice of Madden NFL for EA Sports, a position he has held since Maddebn NFL 17 came out.

“We welcome Brandon into the Braves family as well as our broadcast booth,” said Derek Schiller, Atlanta Braves President and CEO. “The Braves have had a legendary lineup of broadcasters throughout our history and we are excited to find someone who is familiar with our past from growing up a Braves fan and respecting those who came before him.”
