Meet the 2023 T&G Hometeam high school boys' tennis Super Team
The following athletes were named to the T&G Hometeam boys' tennis Super Team, as selected by the T&G staff.
Player of the Year
Kaden Chen
Westborough High
Freshman, Singles
Chen, the Hometeam Boys’ Tennis Player of the Year, helped lead the Rangers to the Division 2 state final, which was his most memorable moment of the season. Playing first singles during the regular season, Chen went 12-2. In the state tournament, he moved to second singles and went 5-0, including a 6-2, 6-1 win against top-seeded Duxbury in the final. Westborough finished 16-6, and Chen was the Mid-Wach A MVP. He is the son of Julie and Fred Chen of Westborough.
Philip Baykov
Nashoba Regional
Senior, Singles
Baykov went 14-1 at second singles and helped the Wolves reach the second round of the Division 2 state tournament. In Nashoba’s first-round win over Plymouth South, which was Baykov’s most memorable moment of the season, he won his match, 6-1, 6-0. He registered a point for his team in a second-round setback to Hopkinton. Baykov was a team captain and helped the Wolves finish 14-6. In the fall, he will attend the University of Massachusetts, where he will study computer engineering. He is the son of Olga Portnova and Aleksy Baykov.
Ryan Brooks
Shepherd Hill Regional
Senior, Singles
Brooks excelled at first singles and helped the Rams reach the first round of the Division 2 state tournament. Shepherd Hill’s 13-game winning streak to finish the regular season was Brooks’ most memorable moment of the year. The Rams defeated Somerville, 4-1, in the preliminary round of the tournament. Brooks was the Mid-Wach B MVP and helped the Rams go 13-5. Brooks was a two-time Hometeam Super Team selection in basketball. In the fall, he will attend Keene State, where he will study sports management and play basketball. He is the son of William Brooks and the late Janet Hourihan Brooks of Dudley.
Wilson Fettig
Grafton High
Senior, Singles
Fettig earned his third Super Team honor and finished his career as the winningest player in Grafton history, despite COVID canceling his freshman season. Fettig went 18-2 at first singles and led the Gators to an appearance in the Division 3 state tournament. Fettig was a two-time SWCL singles champion. This year’s SWCL tournament and Grafton’s win over Algonquin Regional were among his most memorable moments of the season. In the fall, he will attend the University of Massachusetts' Isenberg School of Management. He is the son of Alexis and Mark Fettig of Grafton.
Srinjoy Ghosh
Westborough High
Junior, Singles
Ghosh, who is making his third straight Super Team, starred at first and second singles and helped the Rangers to the Division 2 state final. In the state semifinals against Concord-Carlisle, Ghosh won his first singles match in three sets. It was his most memorable moment of the season as the Rangers avenged last year’s loss in the final and gratifying for Ghosh as he came back from early-season injuries to lead his team back to the final. On the season, Ghosh went 6-2 at first singles and 11-2 at second singles. He was a team captain and Mid-Wach A all-star. He is the son of Subrata and Rakhi Ghosh of Westborough.
Krish Gupta
Shrewsbury High
Junior, Singles
Gupta went 13-8 at first singles and helped lead the Colonials to the second round of the Division 1 state tournament. He was a team captain and Mid-Wach A all-star. He was undefeated in tiebreakers. His most memorable moment of the season was in the Colonials’ opening match of the season. He dropped the first set to Nashoba Regional’s Philip Baykov, 2-6, and, with his teammates cheering him on, came back to win the next two sets, 6-2, 6-2, and help Shrewsbury to a 4-1 win. He is the son of Anil and Geetika Gupta of Shrewsbury.
Hriday Karthik
St. John’s High
Senior, Singles
Karthik repeated as a Super Team honoree and was the Catholic Conference co-MVP. Karthik went 12-5 at first singles and led the Pioneers to the second round of the Division 1 state tournament. He was a two-year captain and three-time Catholic Conference MVP. Karthik finished his career with a 43-8 overall record. A member of the National Honor Society, Karthik will attend Purdue University in the fall and study applied mathematics and data science. He is the son of Karthik Sivam and Sruthi Krishnan of Shrewsbury.
Eehab Khan
Westborough High
Junior, Doubles
Khan paired with classmate Mikey Ku to go 11-2 in first doubles and helped the Rangers reach the Division 2 state final. His most memorable moment of the season was in the state semifinal when Westborough and Concord-Carlisle were tied, one set all, and Westborough’s first singles player Srinjoy Ghosh won his match in three sets to help lead the Rangers to the state final. Khan was a team captain and Mid-Wach A all-star. He is the son of Mak Khan and Shahina Islam of Westborough.
Michael Ku Jr.
Westborough High
Junior, Doubles
Ku went 15-3 at first and second doubles and helped the Rangers reach the Division 2 state final. He was a captain and Mid-Wach A all-star. His most memorable moment of the season was teaming with classmate Eehab Khan at first doubles to beat their Weston opponents in a thrilling three-set match. He is the son of Mariquit and Michael Ku of Westborough.
Ethan Minarik
Bartlett High
Senior, Singles
At first singles, Minarik had a 21-3 record, including a 15-match winning streak, and led Bartlett to the second round of the Division 4 state tournament, which was one of Minarik’s most memorable moments of the season. Repeating as a finalist in the SWCL tournament was another highlight. Minarik was a two-year captain and two-time SWCL all-star. He was the recipient of the 2023 Bartlett High School Male Athlete of the Year award. His career individual record is 43-11. Minarik also starred in basketball and in the fall, he will attend Nichols College, where he will play basketball and double major in finance and data analytics. He is the son of Pamela and Todd Minarik of Webster.
Tyler Stevenson
Algonquin Regional
Senior, Singles
Stevenson went 12-8 at first singles and led the Titans to the Central Mass. Athletic Directors Association Division 1 tournament title. Algonquin earned an appearance in the Division 1 state tournament. Stevenson was a two-time Mid-Wach A League all-star. In the fall, he will attend the University of California Santa Barbara, where he will study biochemistry. He hopes to become a veterinarian. He is the son of John and Shin-Yi Stevenson of Northborough.
Luke Tahmoush
Hopedale High
Senior, Singles
Tahmoush, Hopedale's first singles player, earned his second straight T&G Super Team honor after leading the Blue Raiders to the second round of the Division 4 state tournament. Hopedale finished 15-6. Tahmoush was a two-time Dual Valley Conference Player of the Year. He is the son of Julie and Kevin Tahmoush of Hopedale.
