Meet the 2023-24 All-Spartanburg area boys wrestling team, wrestler of year
Here is the All-Spartanburg area boys high school wrestling team for the 2023-24 season:
Wrestler of the Year
Luke Johannes, High Point
Johannes, a junior at High Point Academy in Spartanburg, won his second state championship at the third-year school. He was the No. 1 ranked wrester in the 126-weight class all season and went into the individuals postseason tournament as the top seed. Johannes pinned his first opponent in the opening period, won his second match by technical fall, 15-0, and then took a 9-2 decision in the final. He won at 106 as a freshman and finished third at 120 as a sophomore.
First team
Aiden Allen, Chesnee
Alen was runner-up in the Class A/AA division at 285. He was the No. 1 qualifier in the Upper State.
Connor Beaudin, Byrnes
Beaudin won the Class AAAAA state championship, 9-5, after winning by second-period pin and major decision.
Terrell Edwards, Dorman
Edwards finished runner-up in Class AAAAA at 175. To get to the final, he had a pin in 1:01 and then another in 39 seconds.
Enahjay Fowler, Dorman
Fowler won the Class AAAAA state championship at 285 by pin in the second period. He was the No. 2 qualifier in the Upper State.
Said Gasimov, High Point
Gasimov won the Class A/AA state championship with three straight pins and the finals match was the only one that got past the second period.
Quinton Gerstenacker, Chesnee
Gerstenecker won the Class A/AA state championship at 144 as the No. 1 seed in the Upper State.
Thad Gerstenacker, Chesnee
Gerstenacker finished state runner-up in Class A/AA in the 138 division. To get there, he won his first two matches by a combined 20-6.

Tyler Henderson, Chesnee
Henderson finished third in the Class A/AA state championship at 126 with three pins. His only loss was to the eventual winner.
Owen Hendricks, Dorman
Hendricks won the state championship at 165 in Class AAAAA, taking the first two victories by pin.
Malachi Hill, Chesnee
Hill won the state championship in Class A/AA at 150 as the No. 1 qualifier from the Upper State and won twice by pin.
Luke Hillers, Boiling Springs
Hillers was a No. 1 qualifier for the Class AAAAA state championships at 106 and finished third.
Hampton Higdon, Byrnes
Higdon was the No. 1 qualifier in the Upper State at 120 and finished runner-up at the Class AAAAA state championship.
James Howard, Union County
Howard won the Class AAA state championship at 150 with three straight pins after being a No. 2 qualifier from the Upper State.
Taven Pesaro, Chesnee
Pesaro, a freshman who is ranked No. 2 in the state at 113 pounds in Class A/AA, finished runner-up at the state tournament.
CJ Smith, Woodruff
Smith lost his opening match to eventual Class AAA state champion at 113 but then won three straight to finish third.
Davis Stubbs, Woodruff
Stubbs won the Class AAA state championship at 215 with a 4-3 decision in the final. He also won by pin and a 7-1 decision.
Aaron Wilburn, Gaffney
Wilburn finished third in the Class AAAAA state championship at 132. He lost his first match but came back with three straight wins.
