Mavericks add former Memphis center Kaodirichi Akobundu-Ehiogu to summer league roster

Kaodirichi Akobundu-Ehiogu, the former Memphis basketball center who went undrafted last month, was added to the Dallas Mavericks' summer league roster Wednesday.

The 6-10, 210-pound native of Nigeria spent just one season with the Tigers. In 2022-23, Akobundu-Ehiogu played sparingly after transferring to Memphis from UT-Arlington. While he played in 30 games (nine starts), he averaged 10.6 minutes.

Despite the scarcity of his playing time, Akobundu-Ehiogu was a shot-blocking specialist. His 1.57 average was second in the AAC and 55th in the country. But he struggled to make much of an impact elsewhere, putting up 2.6 points and 1.7 rebounds at Memphis.

Akobundu-Ehiogu was also a prolific rim protector in his two seasons at UT-Arlington. He swatted 134 shots in 47 games for the Mavericks.

The Tigers, which lost the bulk of its roster from the 2022-23 season, remain in reconstruction mode. Most recently, coach Penny Hardaway secured a commitment from Louisiana transfer center Jordan Brown.
