Mark Vientos homers in Mets' 5-3 loss to Yankees

The Mets lost to the Yankees, 5-3, on Friday as spring training continued.

Here are the takeaways...

- In his first at-bat after the Mets signed J.D. Martinez, Mark Vientos -- serving as the DH -- smacked a two-run homer to right field. Vientos finished the day 1-for-2 and has a .787 OPS this spring.

Although the Mets have added Martinez, he is expected to need some extra time to ramp up, meaning Vientos is very likely still ticketed for the Opening Day roster.

Tyler Stuart -- the Mets' No. 20 prospect according to SNY's Joe DeMayo -- got the start and was solid. He struck out Aaron Judge on a slider in the third inning, and both of the runs he allowed were inherited runners.

Overall, Stuart allowed two runs on three hits while walking two and striking out one. He faced a Yankees lineup that had most of their regulars in it -- including Judge, Juan Soto, Giancarlo Stanton, Gleyber Torres, and Anthony Volpe.

Stuart has an MLB ETA of 2025.

- Francisco Lindor delivered a sacrifice fly in the fifth inning, Brett Baty singled to center his final time up, and Pete Alonso had a pair of singles.

- Luis Gil, in a battle with Will Warren for the No. 5 spot in the Yankees' rotation, pitched very well aside from the homer he allowed to Vientos. In four innings, Gil allowed two runs on two hits while walking two and striking out five. His spring ERA is 2.87.

- Entering after Gil, Warren allowed one run over five solid innings. He gave up three hits, walked two, struck out none, and lowered his spring training ERA to 3.52.

- The Yankees scored three runs in the sixth inning off Mets reliever Jeffrey Colon, who has never pitched above High-A. Two runs came in on a ball off the bat of Kevin Smith that was scored a double, but was misplayed by Baty on a short hop near the third base line.
