Madison Central football defeats Brandon despite best effort from running back Nate Blount

MADISON — Madison Central was keyed in on Brandon's passing game. What it forgot to account for was the Bulldogs' run game.

But in the end, not even running back Nate Blount could break the Jaguars' control of the game as they beat Brandon 40-26 Friday night.

“We did exactly what we wanted to do,” Madison Central coach Toby Collums said. “We wanted their quarterback to be uncomfortable, and I thought he was uncomfortable."

Two plays turned the game in the Jaguars' favor. Blount scored one of his two touchdowns with 3:36 to play in the second quarter to close the gap to 20-13. Just 18 seconds later, on the second play after getting the ball back. Madison Central (2-0) scored on a 75-yard touchdown pass from Ryan Delaney.

With 38 seconds to go before halftime, Madison Central's Myles Miller intercepted Landon Varnes.

“Just disappointing for the second week in a row in how we play,” Brandon coach Sam Williams said. “We’ve been here before. We have strung a lot of wins off before. They broke us with those two scores before the end of the half.”

Blount, who had 134 yards on 24 carries, has been a bright spot for Brandon (0-2).

“He is a really special person," Williams said. “He’s been a captain on our team since he was a sophomore. He’s a really mature kid who works hard and has gotten better every year.”
