Lucas duo of Smollen, Church earn first team All-District 9 honors in Division IV baseball
The Lucas duo of Andrew Smollen and Hunter Church have taken the Cubs to new heights on the baseball field.
On Monday afternoon, the Ohio High School Baseball Coaches Association recognized Smollen and Church by voting them first team All-District 9 for their 2023 season.
Smollen, the reigning Mansfield News Journal Baseball Player of the Year, outdid himself again this year. He hit .492 with 25 RBIs while also dominating on the mound with nine wins and 130 strikeouts, a new single-season school record.
Church hit .551 this season and was among the highest batting averages in all of District 9 no matter what division.
They were joined by Plymouth's Trace McVey and Mansfield Christian's Ethan Bishop who were second team honorees while Plymouth's Zach Hamman and Jansen Potts, Mansfield Christian's Isaac Hillman and Lucas' Bobby Grover and Corbin Toms took honorable mention honors.
