LSU WR Malik Nabers arrested on weapon charge

LSU wide receiver Malik Nabers was arrested in New Orleans on Monday.

According to Nola.com, Nabers is accused of illegally carrying a firearm on Bourbon Street. He was arrested Monday night around 7:30 p.m. after officers noticed an “L-shaped object” in his pants pocket. Nabers told police he did not have a permit for the weapon.

Members of the New Orleans Police Department asked whether he had a permit, police wrote in the documents. When he told them he didn't, they handcuffed him and brought him to the Orleans Parish Justice Center. The gun was transferred to evidence, the NOPD reported.

Nabers, who was released from custody without having to post bail, is facing a misdemeanor charge of illegal carrying of a weapon, police said. Nabers was due to appear in court Tuesday, which happens to be Mardi Gras in New Orleans.

According to ESPN, LSU head coach Brian Kelly is aware of the incident and the school is gathering more information.

Nabers, a native of Youngsville, Louisiana, was a sophomore for LSU in 2022. He led the Tigers with 72 receptions for 1,017 yards and 3 touchdown catches. As a freshman in 2021, Nabers caught 28 passes for 417 yards and 4 touchdowns.

LSU went 10-4 and won the SEC West in 2022, Kelly’s first season as the Tigers’ head coach.
