LSU football won't have this running back available vs. Florida State, per Brian Kelly

BATON ROUGE — LSU football running back John Emery Jr. will not be available to play for Sunday's season opener against Florida State in Orlando (6:30 p.m., ABC), coach Brian Kelly announced during his weekly SEC media teleconference on Wednesday.

Emery was away from the team this spring and summer due to academic issues.

Without Emery, LSU will lean on Noah Cain, Notre Dame transfer Logan Diggs and Josh Williams in its backfield. The Tigers also have junior Armoni Goodwin as another veteran option, but he is listed as doubtful for this week's game.

Williams was also listed on LSU's first injury report of the week but listed as probable.

Offensive lineman Kimo Makane'ole and defensive lineman Maason Smith were the only other Tigers listed on this week's injury report.

Makane'ole is listed as questionable and Smith will be out after the NCAA suspended him for the game for taking part in an autograph signing one month prior to the legalization of NIL.

Besides Williams, Cain and Diggs, the Tigers also have redshirt sophomore Tre Bradford who returned to the program after leaving it last August and freshmen Kaleb Jackson and Trey Holly at the back of their running back depth chart.
