After loss to Clemson, two Auburn assistants are swapping gameday locations
Auburn’s Week 2 loss to Clemson has triggered two of the team’s offensive assistants to swap places during games.
Auburn coach Gus Malzahn said Tuesday that offensive coordinator Chip Lindsey would move upstairs to the press box while offensive line coach Herb Hand will move from the press box to the sidelines. From AuburnSports.com:
“Chip has decided to go upstairs. That’s really where his comfort zone is,” Malzahn said. “That’s where he was the last two years at Arizona State. Just feels like he can get a better feel for the defenses and everything that goes with that.
“Herb will come downstairs. He thinks it will be a good thing for him to get around his offensive line up front. Those are the changes there and I think that’ll definitely help as far as that’s concerned with that.”
Lindsey is in his first year as the team’s offensive coordinator after he was hired from Arizona State. Hand has been with the team since the beginning of the 2016 season.
Auburn’s offense sputtered at times in 2016 and the arrival of Lindsey and quarterback Jarrett Stidham was supposed to change that this season. So far, it hasn’t happened. Stidham was sacked 11 times as Auburn lost 14-6 to Clemson on Saturday.
Lindsey and Hand will get a week to get acclimated to their surroundings before SEC play begins. The Tigers play Mercer in Week 3 before traveling to Missouri in Week 4.
