Look: Kamilla Cardoso buzzer-beater 3 saves South Carolina vs. Tennessee in SEC Tournament

Down two with 1.1 seconds.

One shot.

That is what South Carolina women's basketball coach Dawn Staley faced in Saturday's SEC women's basketball tournament semifinal against Tennessee. And in March, expect the unexpected right?

Staley drew it up for senior forward Kamilla Cardoso touch the ball coming out of a timeout, and Cardoso hit her first career 3-pointer as the Gamecocks avoided a stunner against Tennessee, 74-73, in Greenville, S.C.

South Carolina will face either LSU or Ole Miss in Sunday's tournament final.

"I knew that the players that we had on the floor, pretty much the only player that was going to be open was Kamilla," Staley said of her thought process with the play she drew up postgame on the SEC Network. "I just told Raven (Johnson) to get the ball to Kamilla.

"It could not have happened to a better person."

It was the first 3-pointer that Cardoso attempted since the 2020-21 season, when she played for Syracuse.
