A look at each Brevard County regional quarterfinal softball matchup

Eight Brevard County high school softball teams earned spots in the 2024 FHSAA state playoffs. Class 2A, 3A, and 4A begin play May 8. Class 5A and 6A open up play on May 9.

Here is a preview of each Brevard FHSAA matchup:

Region 2-2A

Brevard County matchup: No. 6 Melbourne Central Catholic (11-8) at No. 3 Academy at the Lakes (16-11).

Last Week, the Hustlers won the District 8-2A in a comeback win over Holy Trinity. Melbourne Central Catholic will go on the road to face Academy at the Lakes (Land O'Lakes) in the Region 2-2A quarterfinals. Academy at the Lakes also won its district championship.

MCC Stat leaders: Amanda Carter 29 RBIs, 21 hits, 21 runs, two home runs; Brooklyn Dolin 28 hits, 25 runs, 11 RBIs; Shakiya Harris 22 hits, 13 RBIs, 19 runs, Maison Lelievre 18 RBIs, 17 hits, 17 runs. Pitching: Emily Lowe 38 Ks, 3.29 ERA.

Region 2-3A

Brevard County matchup: No. 7 Astronaut (14-8) at No. 2 Santa Fe (21-4).

The War Eagles will travel to Alachua to face off against Santa Fe for their first game of the Class 3A state playoffs. Astronaut enters the game on a three-game winning streak, including a win in the District 8-3A championship.

Astronaut Stat Leaders: Arielys Rosado 32 hits, 29 RBIs, 23 runs; Ciara Vansky 29 hits, 29 RBIs, 25 runs; Skyler Brown 27 runs, 19 hits; Ryleigh McCray 21 RBIs, 26 hits, 25 runs; Riley Miller 73 Ks.

Region 2-4A

Brevard County matchups: No. 6 Rockledge (13-10) at No. 3 Eau Gallie (15-6); No. 8 Merritt Island (13-11) at No. 1 Eustis (21-2).

Eau Gallie and Rockledge will meet again on the field for the fourth time this season. Rockledge won the first two games between the two team, but Eau Gallie won the third game, which was for the district championship. The Mustangs are the third Brevard team in this region and are scheduled to play the top seeded Eustis on the road.

Eau Gallie Stat Leaders: Sarah Langlie 18 RBIs, 22 hits, 11 runs, seven home runs; Emma-Lea Cabral 20 RBIs, 14 hits, three home runs; Shyla Eppert 16 runs, 23 hits; Sara Walsh 26 hits, 18 runs; Heather Rue 75 Ks, 3.24 ERA.

Merritt Island Stat leaders: Haley Smith 15 RBIs, 13 hits,59 Ks; Elena Rollen 25 hits, 13 RBIs, 19 runs; Rindi Amos 21 hits, 12 RBIs, 55 Ks.

Region 4-5A

Brevard County matchup: No. 4 American (16-4) at No. 5 Bayside (15-7).

Bayside is coming off a dominant 10-0 win over Sebastian River in the district championship. Since the Bears won their district, they will host No. 4 American in the first round of the playoffs.

Bayside stat leaders: Jordyn Milo 22 RBIs, 28 hits, 11 runs; Brooke Lemke 22 RBIs, 25 hits, 24 runs; Haleigh Curry 37 runs, 28 hits, 14 RBIs, two home runs; Nicole Garcia 56 Ks, 2.14 ERA.

Region 3-6A

Brevard County matchups: No. 4 Viera (18-8) at No. 5 Seminole Ridge (17-7); No. 7 Dwyer (11-15) at No. 2 Melbourne (27-0).

Undefeated Melbourne and Viera faced off last week in the district championship game, where the Bulldogs won the game 2-0. Now both teams will compete in the Class 6A playoffs. Viera will travel to Loxahatchee to play No. 5 Seminole Ridge, who won its district and earned a first-round home game.

Melbourne will play No. 7 Dwyer for the second time this season in the regional quarterfinals. Earlier in this year, Melbourne defeated Dwyer 11-1.

Viera stat leaders: Haley Rider 24 RBIs, 30 hits, 29 runs, five home runs; Madison Rider 40 hits, 36 runs, 16 RBIs, 83 Ks; Tori Berry 23 RBIs, 22 hits, 12 runs; Amaya Pitt 20 RBIs, 21 hits, 19 runs; Addy Berry 27 hits, 18 runs, 20 RBIs, 99 Ks.
