lohud high school football rankings as playoffs begin for some Section 1 teams

Preparations for the playoffs are in full swing across Section 1, and there is one more week of jockeying for position to go in the CHSFL.

There's not a lot of movement in the Top 10 this week, but things could get interesting the rest of the way.

Stepinac is again atop the list. The Crusaders will be tested again this week when St. Anthony's pulls into White Plains on Friday with a CHSFL AA regular-season title on the line.

10. Harrison (5-2)

One loss has to be haunting the Huskies, who are getting a second chance when they open the playoffs against Mahopac, which posted a 28-14 win in Week 2.

9. Mamaroneck (4-2)

Consistency is a good thing. Over the last month of the regular season, nobody scored more than a pair of touchdowns against the Tigers.

8. Yorktown (7-1)

While the Huskers were competitive in the loss against Somers last week, there have to be concerns about the offense, which struggled to stay on the field.

7. Rye (6-2)

A.J. Miller has thrown for 1,285 yards and 11 touchdowns, but the stat that really stands out is the .682 completion percentage. That's a 14% improvement over last season.

6. Pleasantville (7-0)

Daniel Picart needs 96 yards to reach 1,000 yards rushing in eight games. He went over 7,000 career all-purpose yards in a win over Nyack.

5. Carmel (6-1)

The Rams needed a couple of weeks to get healthy and find their identity. The starters have not given up more than 12 points in any of the last five games.

4. Iona Prep (5-3)

Joey Gaston continues to keep this offense moving. The junior quarterback has accounted for 64 percent of the Gaels' 2,850 total yards to date.

3. Somers (7-1)

At some point this season, the offense is going to get off the bus in stride. Getting some early points on the board would significantly increase the odds of securing another Section 1 title.

2. Arlington (8-0)

The Admirals finished the regular season undefeated and untested, but not uninspired. This group is keeping the big picture in mind, but focusing on winning each snap.

1. Stepinac (5-2)

To earn the top seed in the CHSFL playoffs, all the Crusaders have to do is limit the league's most prolific offense and come out with a win.
