lohud football rankings: Rye, Pleasantville on the rise ahead of Week 3 clash
Rye and Pleasantville are both climbing.
When they go head-to-head Friday under the lights at Parkway Field in what could be a preview of the Section 1 Class B title game, a lot of eyes will be on that game.
The Panthers are the defending Section 1 champs and played in the NYSPHSAA title game last fall, but the Garnets are the slim favorite after dropping down from Class A, where they fell in the sectional championship last year to Somers.
Here is how teams across the Lower Hudson Valley stack up this week:
10. Yorktown (3-0)
Opponents are beginning to feature Dylan Delvecchio prominently in their scouting reports. He's already over the 400-yard mark and has five rushing TDs.
Last week: 10
Up next: John Jay-Cross River on Friday
9. Carmel (1-1)
Settling into a routine will help the Rams, who expect to have Matt Risley and Damien Santiago healthy and back in the lineup soon.
Last week: 5
Up next: at John Jay-East Fishkill on Friday
8. Rye (2-1)
If the Garnets are the favorite in Class B, this is the week they need to prove it, on the road and under the lights against defending Section 1 champion Pleasantville.
Last week: 9
Up next: at Pleasantville on Friday
7. Pleasantville (2-0)
These guys have won 19 consecutive regular-season contests dating back to 2020. Rye could be the best team the Panthers have faced outside the playoffs in that span.
Last week: 9
Up next: Rye on Friday
6. North Rockland (3-0)
Four wins to start the season was the goal. It's going to get more difficult in the second half with teams like Suffern, John Jay-East Fishkill and Carmel lying in wait.
Last week: 7
Up next: Ossining on Friday
5. John Jay-East Fishkill (3-0)
The eye-popping, 35-point average margin of victory in league wins over Ossining and White Plains shows the Patriots are not wasting time this season.
Last week: 6
Up next: Carmel on Friday
4. Iona Prep (2-1)
Joey Gaston and Crew Davis have been able to get comfortable in a revamped offense, but a visit with defending NYCHSFL AAA champion St. Anthony's is always next level.
Last week: 4
Up next: at St. Anthony on Friday
3. Somers (2-1)
There is no stress, whatsoever. A swarming Tuskers defense worked over Fox Lane last week and Mac Sullivan threw for 235 yards and four TDs in an easy win.
Last week: 3
Up next: Mahopac on Friday
2. Stepinac (2-1)
Lorenzo Robinson stepped into a more prominent role when Jordan Osbourne got hurt Week 0 in Tennessee and he's responded, averaging 95.7 yards rushing per game.
Last week: 2
Up next: Holy Trinity on Friday
1. Arlington (3-0)
A lot of built up frustration was released when the Admirals solved Carmel last week. The next task is remaining focused against the upcoming string of underdogs looking to steal a headline.
Last week: 1
Up next: at Ketcham on Friday
