Locals shine at state wrestling championships

Boys' wrestling

Division 1 state championship: Monty Tech's Jonah Paulino claimed the title at 132 pounds, while teammates Cooper Wiebe (126 pounds) and Sean Lyle (113 pounds) each finished fifth to lead the Bulldogs to a tie for 10th at Newton South.

Paulino defeated Shawsheen's Caleb Caceres by pinfall at 1:05 to take the title.

Leominster's Anthuan Lino-Diego took third at 285 pounds, while Dan Greaney was fourth at 144 pounds and Troy Greaney came in fifth at 150 pounds as the Blue Devils placed 16th.

St. John's Landan Gray was third at 144 pounds and teammate Jonathan McMahon finished eighth at 138 pounds.

Division 2 state championship: Sawyer Ayotte defeated Sharon's Cyrus Jones, 3-1, in the 150-pound final to claim the championship at Algonquin Regional.

The Rams finished 11th as a team, as Justin Kelly took fifth at 120 pounds and Diego Gutierrez-Serrano placed sixth at 285 pounds to earn points for Shepherd Hill.

Bellingham/Valley Tech's Landry Fitzgerald won the 285-pound championship by defeating Plymouth South's Brendan Nunley via pinfall in 1:45.

Nashoba's Daniel de Almeida placed third at 175 pounds and teammate Connor Cox was eighth at 190 pounds.

Northbridge's Blake Sastre was fourth at 157 pounds, while Worcester Tech's Omid Sabr placed fourth at 150 pounds and Algonquin's Alexander Franca took fourth at 132 pounds.

Division 3 state championship: Marlborough's Owen Menendez defeated Pathfinder's William Burke by pinfall in 3:09 to take the title at 138 pounds at Wakefield High.

Teammate Muguel Borges fell to Hanover's Anthony Mann by 6-0 decision to finish second at 150 pounds, while Marlborough's Marcelo Borges took fifth at 285 pounds to help the Panthers place 10th.

Quabbin's Cole Wilson took sixth at 150 pounds.

Girls' wrestling

Division 1 state championship: Leominster's Abigail Muller took third teammate Jasmin Abdella placed fourth in the 107-pound bracket for the Blue Devils at Newton South. Muller topped Abdella, 21-5, in a quarterfinal match.

Monty Tech's Kaleigh Fuller placed third at 152 pounds.

Division 2 state championship: Worcester Tech's Aaliyah Rivera defeated Northbridge's Annah Manning to place third in the 120 pound bracket at Algonquin Regional.

Rivera also won two other matches by pinfall and another by 6-1 decision. Manning had won three previous matches via pinfall for the Rams.

Shepherd Hill's Nalani Senckowski placed fourth at 145 pounds.

Division 3 state championship: Marlborough's Angeles Munoz fell to Wakefield's Teagan Norton, 13-2, to place second in the 185-pound bracket at Wakefield High.

Quabbin's Kailynn Schuster fell to Duggan's Jayda-Mya Garrafa by 10-6 decision place third at 132 pounds. Schuster won three matches by pinfall in the tournament.
