Locals earn All-State volleyball honors

Nov. 22—The votes are in and the outcomes are mostly what was expected.

Western 7B conference regular season and tournament champion Eureka, along with 14C champion Charlo dominated all-star selections with two All-State picks and four total honorees per team.

Among the All-State selections from the 7B conference is Thompson Falls sophomore Gabi Hannum, who helped lead the Lady Hawks to second place finishes in both the regular season and District tournaments. She was joined in the all-star line-up by teammates Addi Pardee and Sarah Koskela, both of whom were named to the 7B second team. Koskela is a junior, while Pardee is in her sophomore season at T Falls.

Western 7B champion Eureka landed four girls on the post season honors list, paced by juniors Kara Stanger and Annie Vaughn, who were instrumental in the Lady Lions eventual berth in the state tournament.

Both Stanger and Vaughn were named to the All-State team as the Lady Lions finished second in the Divisional tourney and advanced to the state finals in Bozeman last week.

Two other Lincoln County girls were named to the post-season lists, including sophomore Aubrey Casazza (first team 7B) and freshman Sophie Vaughn (second team 7B).

Also making the list were three players from Plains High, including junior Lexi Deming, who made the 7B first team roster. Trotter teammates Teagan Saner, a junior, and senior Blakely Lakko were named to the 7B second team.

Curiously missing from the all-star lists was Plains freshman Claire Lakko, who routinely led the Trotters in assists, topping more than 30 in several matches this year.

Mission High School had a pair of players on the 7B team, led by first-team selection Izzay Evans, a sophomore, and Alecia Steele, another Lady Bulldog sophomore.

Noxon senior Mia Vogel was one of three Lady Devils named to the squad when she was selected to the 7B first team and named All-state.

Noxon teammate Maygan Swanson, also a senior, joined Vogel on the 14C first team, while Lady Devil junior Seanna Richter was named to the second team.

Charlo, the regular season and District tournament champions, landed a pair of players on the conference first team and All-state team. Senior Aida Cote and Karly Alder made the All-state team for the Vikings, while teammate Leah Cahoon, a sophomore was chosen for the first team, and senior Shonlea Matt made the second team.

Hot Springs, which finished second in the District 14C regular season and District tournament, had a pair of first team players on the District team, led by senior Lauryn Aldridge and sophomore Kara Christensen.

St Regis landed two players on the list, including second team selections Shylah Dalka, a junior, and sophomore Shelby Simkins.

Alberton had one player make the second team, senior Lacey Zimmerman.
