Local Sports: Monroe's winning streak reaches 11 games in a row

Monroe extended its winning streak to 11 games by sweeping Riverview 3-1 and 6-5 Saturday.

Breylon Richards smashed a two-run, walk-off homer in the first game.

Noah Miller collected five hits for the day and Brayden Pearce and Brady Welch earned pitching wins for the 21-6-1 Trojans.

Monroe's junior varsity won their sixth game in a row by taking the first game 11-0. Devin Brossia pitched well and Jacob Harvell and Cosy Snead had two hits apiece.

Garrett Gottschalk and Hayden McIntosh logged two hits each in the second game, which ended in an 8-8 tie. The Trojans are 8-17-1.

PREP SOFTBALL

Ida, Monroe finish 2-3

CANTON – Ida finished with a 2-3 record in the Michigan Challenge Tournament during the weekend, beating North Farmington 2-1 and Canton 7-2 and falling to Fenton 14-6, Big Rapids 11-4 and White Lake Lakeland 20-6.

Jessica Schrader went 6-for-16 with eight RBI, Summer Smith finished with seven hits and played great defense, and Maddie McCain added five hits. McKenna Tarry earned both pitching wins.

Monroe also finished at 2-3. The Trojans were 2-1 Saturday then lost 12-2 to Walled Lake Northern and 12-11 to Milford Sunday.

Ally Lewis homered and singled against Northern and homered against Milford. Allie Hall blasted a pair of homers against Milford, Avery Leach had three hits, and Natalie Kelley two.

The Trojans fell to 16-14.

PRO HOCKEY

Walleye in trouble

BOISE – The Toledo Walleye are in trouble in the ECHL Western Conference finals after dropping two 3-0 decisions to the Idaho Steelheads on Friday and Saturday.

The best-of-seven series resumes Wednesday in Toledo.

PRO BASEBALL

Lipcius shines for Hens

OMAHA – Andre Lipcius went 4-for-5 with a home run and two RBI, but the Toledo Mud Hens fell 8-4 to Omaha Sunday.

Lipcius is hitting .247.

Schreiber on DL

BOSTON – Gibraltar Carlson graduate John Schreiber has been placed on the 15-day injured list.

Schreiber had to leave a game last week with a lat strain. The injury interrupts what has been a strong season for the righthander. He is 1-0 with a 2.12 earned-run average, 21 strikeouts and eight walks in 17 innings.

Bradley gets first ace

Sean Bradley of Monroe shot his first hole-in-one Sunday at Green Meadows Golf Course.

He used a 6-iron to ace the 162-yard No. 6 hole.

ADULT SOCCER

Lovell nets five goals

Josh Lovell scored five goals to lead Not Fast, Just Furious to a 6-4 win over Athletico in the Monroe Indoor Adult Coed Soccer League at LevelUp Training Sunday night.

Stephanie Zecman scored three goals for Athletico.
