MILAN – Adam Gilles, who won 451 games in 24 seasons as Milan’s baseball coach has stepped down.

“I have dedicated the last 24-years to the baseball program at Milan, and I do not regret one minute of it,” said Gilles.

He said he wants to devote more time to his family.

“He’s an awesome coach, and even better person,” said Milan athletic director Robert Hull. “I have nothing but positive things to say when people ask about him.

“He looks at our kids as people, and focuses on the importance of making them impact people in our society. He made the overall experience for our student-athletes great, and he understands what educational athletics are all about.”

Gilles is the most decorated baseball coach in Milan history. He racked up a 451-243-6 record, averaging 21.5 wins per season.

He twice led Milan to the Michigan High School Athletic Association’s final four with Regional championships in 2009 and 2013. His teams also won five District titles and three Huron League championships.

He only had two losing seasons in 24 years and racked up topped 20 wins 11 times and 30 wins twice.

Gilles will continue teaching at the high school.

Giant Oak aced

TEMPERANCE – Dustin Pollard shot a hole-in-one on the 137-yard No. 17 hole at Giant Oak Golf Club Monday with a wedge.
