Local Sports: Bedford volleyball holds off Dexter

DEXTER – Bedford persevered in a tough match Thursday night.

The Mules' Southeastern Conference rival Dexter grabbed a win in the second set of the match and the Dreadnaughts pushed Bedford for nearly every point in the others. Bedford battled to come away with a 25-21, 22-25, 25-16, 25-23 Thursday.

Victoria Gray had 18 kills and 5 blocks, Kaylin Schroeder notched 37 assists, Alivia Brown had a double-double with 12 kills and 19 digs, Jaelyn Hall had 8 kills and 5 blocks, and Mya Krohn added 16 digs.

PREP VOLLEYBALL

Langenderfer leads Mason

ERIE – Brooklyn Langenderfer shared the wealth to lead Erie Mason to a 25-9, 25-11, 25-15 win over Britton Deerfield Thursday.

Langenderfer finished with 20 assists, 17 points, and 7 digs. The attack for the Eagles was well spread out between Elizabeth Sweeney (14 kills), Jenna Wright (11 kills, 11 digs), Jada Sipert (10 kills), and Addie Homrich (9 kills). Rylee Grodi added 8 digs.

Summerfield swept

SAND CREEK – Sand Creek took down Summerfield in three sets Thursday, winning 25-12, 25-15, 25-19.

Ava Fisher shined defensively for the Bulldogs with 16 digs.

Sand Creek also won the junior varsity game. Playing well for Summerfield were Maya Stone (7 points, 10 digs), Bridget Salenbien (6 points, 8 assists, 6 digs, 2 kills), Sophie Stanger (6 points, 2 aces), and Gabi Myshock (4 kills, 4 blocks).

PREP SWIMMING

Monroe, Bedford duel

MONROE – Monroe High School hosted a rare meet at its own pool Thursday with rival Bedford. The Mules came away with a 124-59 win.

Winners for Bedford were Alexa Fuleky (200 IM, 500 free), Gabby Pisanti (200 free, breaststroke), Lilly Landolt (50 free), Annabelle Williams (butterfly), Peyton Prielipp (backstroke), and Claire Johnson (diving).

The Mules set seven new personal records in the Trojan waters.

"We had a good meet tonight against Monroe," Bedford coach Holly Scheffer said. "We had some great races that came down to the finish. Monroe has recently gotten some new timing equipment that made the meet results run smoothly and a scoreboard that kept fans in the mix. ... Coach Erin (Dowen) is doing a great job building up the Monroe team."

Sophia Smith led Monroe in scoring, taking first place in the 100 free and second in the 200 IM. Nicole Rykse was second in the 500 free and third in the 200 free and Delani Willey finished second in the 50 free and third in the backstroke.

Katie Murphy, Abby Dieckmann, and Phoebe Lietaert also swam well for the Trojans, who dipped to 3-4.

"We really appreciate Bedford coming to Monroe to compete," Monroe coach Erin Dowen said. "Our team really enjoyed being on their home turf."

PREP GOLF

Grosse Ile wins title

MONROE – Grosse Ile pulled away for a 26-stroke victory over the rest of the field in Thursday's Huron League Championship at Sandy Creek Golf Course.

The Red Devils won with 375. St. Mary Catholic Central was second with 401, followed by New Boston Huron (404), Flat Rock (420), Airport (424), Riverview (468).

County Championship: Friends share medalist honors

Grosse Ile's Hanna Hargrove was medalist with a 77 and led the First Team All-Huron League. Other First Teamers were Airport's Sophie Bucki (85), Grosse Ile's Kate Bargamian (89), Flat Rock's Elyse Rogier (90), Huron's Brooklyn Burke (92), Addison Bozynski (94) and Adriana Skene (95), and SMCC's Ana Cuccia (94).

Earning Second Team All-League were Riverview's Abby Duty (99), Airport's Hannah Roof (100), Flat Rock's Reese Dale (105), SMCC's Nora Kinsey (101), Lauren Tolliver (102), and Tori Busen (104), and Grosse Ile's Evangeline Dailey (104) and Alex Ganzberger (105).

Milan and Jefferson did not factor into the team scoring, but Rylee Kennedy paced the Big Reds with 119 and Payton Jones carded a 121 for the Bears.

PREP SOCCER

Monroe beats rival

TEMPERANCE – Monroe made it two wins over Bedford this season with 2-0 victory Thursday.

Evan Ortiz scored on an assist from Logan Brockway and Talen Swinkey added a goal on a penalty kick. Austin Dunn made a great run to set up the PK.

"It was the lads' sixth game in 10 days and it showed," Monroe coach Ian Cooke said. "Credit to them for doing enough to grind out a result."

Trevor Mann played well defensively for the 10-4-2 Trojans.

PREP TENNIS

Monroe singles soar

MONROE – Monroe surrendered just six games across four singles matches to roll to a 7-1 win over Airport Thursday.

Azariah Duran (No. 1), Jack Drougel (No. 2), Booker Shipe (No. 3), and Max Hassett (No. 4) all logged singles wins for the Trojans. Monroe also won at No. 1 doubles with Parter Renwick-Vance Pokrywki, No. 2 doubles with Brayden Swearengin-Noah Carverth, and No. 3 doubles with Ryan Lorimor-Jason Lorimor.

Airport's Keith White-Nicholas Brannan won at No. 4 doubles.
