Local scene Flames spike the Tigers in volleyball

Sep. 29—The Lodi High volleyball team swept Tokay on Thursday, winning 25-14, 25-15, 25-18.

Avery Peterson tallied 8 kills for the Flames, along with 5 kills each from Karis Mann and Norah Mayer. Grace Culler added 5 aces and 16 assists, Mann had 4 aces, Mayer had a pair of blocks, Brooke Brereton had 8 digs, and Elizabeth Kanemura had 9 assists.

Lodi (14-8, 4-1 in the Tri-City Athletic League) will host league-leading St. Mary's on Tuesday. Tokay (6-14, 1-4) will play at West.

JV: Lodi 2, Tokay 0

Sophia Marler had 4 aces and Peyton Deihl had 4 kills as the Flames won 25-12, 25-9 on Thursday. Hope Carson added 7 assists.

Freshmen: Lodi 2, Tokay 1

Anissa Gomez had 8 aces, 6 assists and a pair of kills in Thursday's 18-25, 25-23, 15-13 win for Lodi. Yareli Mendoza added 4 kills, and Kylie Kesterson had 2 kills.

TENNIS

Lodi 8, St. Mary's 1

The Flames swept the doubles matches and took five of six singles matches to cruise on Thursday.

In singles matches. St. Mary's Parker Orlando won against Lodi's Sydney Friesen at No. 1 for the Rams' lone point of the match.

Lodi swept the rest, with Savannah Chinchiolo winning 6-1, 6-0 over June Kobrin at No. 2, Emma Stilwell winning 6-0, 6-1 over Kara Cardona at No. 3, Hannah Larson winning 6-0, 6-0 over Katie Rore at No. 4, Keara Shoup winning 6-3, 6-2 over Charlie Nelson at No. 5 and Hanna Hoopmann winning 6-1, 6-2 over Aubrey Jamaoas at No. 6.

In doubles matches, Lodi's Jailey Davis and Nicole Ianiero won 6-4, 7-5 over Rachelle Calimum and Rosan Engelman at No. 1, Nyla Haynie and Taylor Hulstrom won 6-2, 6-6 (10-6) over Francesca Podesto and Addison Rolano at No. 2, and Reese Kelley and Gracie Davenport won 6-2, 6-3 over Rylee Bernaldez and Amelia Bling at No. 3.

Tokay 9, West 0

The Tigers scored another victory on Thursday in a sweep over the Wolf Pack.

In singles play, Natalie Means beat Paige Dehart 6-3, 6-1 at No. 1, Ashley Ragon beat Gabriela Cabral 6-0, 6-1 at No. 2, Chloe Lowe beat Kennedy Henderson 6-0, 6-0 at No. 3, Inaya Khan won 6-0, 6-1 at No. 4, Alexandra Gormely beat T;aijah Crockett 6-0, 6-0 at No. 5, and Flora Kuhlgatz beat Linda Crockett 6-0, 6-0 at No. 6.

In doubles, Myah Pimentel and Vanessa Ha beat Elizabeth Lanza and Noorjit Kaur 6-0, 6-0 at No. 1, Claudia Alvarez Juan and Teresa Nieto beat Hazel McCurdy and Leilani Freitas 6-0, 6-0 at No. 2 and Marinda Htoon and Karla Cahue won 6-0, 6-0 at No. 3.

FLAG FOOTBALL

Varsity: Tokay 26, Sierra 0

The Tigers continued their winning streak with Thursday's shutout, with four touchdown passes from quarterback Aria Khan.

Two of those touchdown passes went to Christina Ochoa, who finished with 6 catches for 71 yards, and the other two went to Kayleen Tuavao, who finished with 4 catches for 48 yards. Khan finished with 25-of-32 passing for 257 yards.

Tokay moved half a game ahead of St. Mary's, at 9-2, atop the TCAL standings with the win.

Varsity: Lodi 40, Millennium 6

The Flames improved to 8-3 in the TCAL with Thursday's victory.

GOLF

Tokay 294, West 311

The Tigers improved to 3-6 in TCAL play with Thursday's victory, led by Kiera Eastwood's 51. JoJo Fairbanks added a 53, Krystina Lopez had a 54, Mary Machado had a 64, and Margaret Machado had a 72.

On Sept. 21, Tokay lost 238-311 to St. Mary's, with Eastwood's 53 leading the Tigers. Eastwood also led the team with a 52 on Sept. 19, a 231-299 loss to Lincoln.

On Sept. 14, Tokay beat Tracy 294-306, led by 57s from Fairbanks and Margaret Machado.

Lodi 220, St. Mary's 263

The Flames were led by Giana Main and Viviana Rojas in Thursday's victory, with 41s from each on the par-37 Woodbridge Golf & Country Club course.

Allison Frank added a 42, ClaraGrace Plath had a 43, Alison Ky had a 53 and Jayda Van Steenberge had a 62. Lodi is 10-0 overall, and 8-0 in league play.

FOOTBALL

The Lodi freshman team lost 14-0 to St. Mary's on Thursday.
