LOCAL ROUNDUP: Trinity advances to third round of wrestling playoffs

Jan. 29—TRINITY — Trinity defeated Reidsville 69-12 in the first round and Burns 60-21 in the second during the NCHSAA 2A dual-team wrestling playoffs Saturday at Trinity.

The Bulldogs, the top seed in the 2A West, advanced to the third round Wednesday (the site has not yet been determined).

Aiden Burkholder (106 pounds, forfeit), Edgar Vasquez (113, forfeit), Spencer May (120, fall 2:56), Brayden Hall (126, fall 2:09), Jaden Allred (138, fall 6:06), Bear Schaefer (144, forfeit), Baron Justice (150, forfeit), Zane Schloemer (157, forfeit), Lawson Coltrane (165, fall 3:35), Xavier Horton (190, dec 6-2), Gavin Hardister (215, forfeit) and Joseph Trahan (285, fall 2:19) won for the Bulldogs against 16th-seeded Reidsville.

Burkholder (106, forfeit), Vasquez (113, fall 2:15), Hall (126, fall 1:29), Kendall Miles (138, fall 1:01), Justice (150, fall 0:58), Schloemer (157, fall 0:26), Coltrane (165, fall 4:19), Horton (190, fall 6:40), Hardister (215, fall 0:36) and Trahan (285, fall 6:00) won against eighth-seeded Burns.

AT THOMASVILLE

THOMASVILLE — Third-seeded Thomasville beat 14th-seeded Pender 67-12 in the first round and sixth-seeded North Moore 43-31 in the second round of the NCHSAA 1A East dual-team wrestling playoffs Saturday at Thomasville.

Luis Sosa (138 pounds, MD 9-0), Alexis Perez (144, fall), Jon Fuentes (150, fall), Ricky Carson (157, forfeit), Eriberto Torres (165, fall), Ramiro Gutierrez (175, dec 10-5), Owen Callicutt (190, fall), Taj Gabriel (215, fall), BJ Sivongxey (106, forfeit), Angel Sanchez (113, forfeit), Josue Gomez (126, fall) and Dontae Smith (132, forfeit) won for the Bulldogs against Pender.

Fuentes (150, fall), Torres (157, fall), Gutierrez (165, fall), Callicutt (175, fall), Gabriel (215, fall), Gomez (126, fall), Smith (132, MD 18-7) and Sosa (138, dec 8-6) won against South Stanly.

Thomasville advanced to face second-seeded Rosewood in the third round Wednesday.

AT WEST LINCOLN

LINCOLNTON — Wheatmore, the No. 15 seed, lost against second-seeded West Lincoln in the first round of the NCHSAA 2A West dual-team wrestling playoffs Saturday at West Lincoln.

AT GRIMSLEY

GREENSBORO — Fourteenth-seeded Glenn lost 66-6 against third-seeded Grimsley in the first round of the NCHSAA 4A West dual-team wrestling playoffs Saturday at Grimsley.

Yusel Aguilar (113 pounds, dec 9-4) and Alexander Lopez (132, dec 9-2) won for the Bobcats.

PINE DOWN HOMELESSNESS TOURNAMENT

CONCORD — Wesleyan Christian place third out of 11 teams during Saturday's Pin Down Homelessness tournament at Cannon.

David Perdue won at 285 pounds while Robert Cheek won at 165 pounds to highlight the Trojans. Tristen Fjeld (106) and Ethan Williams (126) finished second. Max Pegram (138), Ben Geren (150) and Stephen McLamb (175) were third, while Ben Cooper (190) was fourth.
