Local Recap: Hillsdale Tennis No. 4 doubles team takes second at SMITL meet

HILLSDALE — On Monday, local prep sports tennis and golf athletes helped their teams have an impressive showing in their conference events. The Hillsdale girls tennis team traveled to the SMITL tournament at Brooklyn Columbia Central, where the three of the top four placed teams were separated by a point each.

The Hornets ended up taking fourth overall, separated from the second-place team by just two points. It was a successful event for several athletes on an individual level. No. 1 singles tennis player Abigail Nolan placed third to lead the Hillsdale singles competitors. No. 2 singles player Annzley Francis, No. 3 singles Kailyn Frosch and No. 4 singles Aleighna Zubryckyj each took fourth.

Leading the way for all Hillsdale singles and doubles competitors was the No. 4 doubles team of Olivia Kuenzer and Emily Butterbaugh, who took second in their flight. Two other teams took third, including the No. 1 doubles team of Victoria Sheffer and Sabina Hernandez-Lobato and the No. 3 team of Cassidi Mapps and Samara Williams. The No. 2 doubles team of Quinn Ortiz and Holly Lanius took fourth.

Hillsdale Academy golf earns third SCAA jamboree win

Hillsdale Academy boys golf continues to roll through SCAA play with their third straight SCAA jamboree win over in Battle Creek.

The Colts took on their SCAA rivals over at Riverside Golf Course. Five golfers were in the individual top 10. As a team, Hillsdale Academy's 171 final score was enough to hold off second place Jackson Christian's 185. Hillsdale Will Carleton Academy took fourth with a 191 final score.

Senior Rykert Frisinger led the Academy with a 41, tied for first with Jackson Christian's Jonathan Locke. Senior Ridley Fast and junior Kahle Welden tied for third with a 42. Freshman Vincent Reagle both carded a 46 to tie for ninth.

Will Carleton Academy junior Will Thielen took fifth with a score of 44, tied with Mendon's Matthew Bakeman. Cougar junior Tyler Slade took seventh with a 45, tied with Kayden Laclair from Colon.

Hillsdale Academy will host the John Matthew Krutsch Memorial Golf Tournament at the Medalist Golf Club in Marshall, Michigan this Friday, May 10. The tournament honors the memory of Matthew Krutsch, a Hillsdale Academy graduate who was an integral member of the golf team.
