Local Football Roundup: Bobcats lose in football semifinals

Nov. 21—Myrtle Point's run in the Class 1A eight-player football playoffs came to an end Saturday at Caldera High School in Bend, when No. 2 seed Crane topped the third-seeded Bobcats.

With the 28-22 win, Crane advanced to the championship game against top-ranked Lost River, the only other team to beat Myrtle Point this year.

Lost River beat St. Paul 54-28 in the other semifinal.

The championship game will be played at 1 p.m. Saturday at Caldera High School, part of a doubleheader with the Class 4A title game between Marist Catholic and Henley, which kicks off at 5 p.m.

Myrtle Point was held to its lowest point total of the season. The only other time the Bobcats were held under 50 points was in their loss to Lost River, 48-28.

Myrtle Point finished the season 8-2.

The Mustangs take a perfect 10-0 record into the championship game.

SIX-PLAYER: No. 10 seed Echo followed its win over Powers last week with a 34-19 win over Elkton to advance to the final against No. 4 seed Joseph. The championship game will be played at 2 p.m. Saturday at Hermiston High School.

Joseph upset top-ranked Prairie City/Burnt River 33-19 in the other semifinal.

CLASS 2A: No. 2 seed Oakland, which won the special district that includes South Coast schools Bandon, Reedsport and Gold Beach, came up a game short of the championship game, falling 32-18 to Lowell, which also eliminated Gold Beach last week.

Lowell will face top-ranked Weston-McEwen/Griswold, which beat Regis 55-39, in the championship game at 2 p.m. Saturday at Hillsboro Stadium.

CLASS 3A: Defending state champion Cascade Christian, which had to survive an overtime scare against Vale in the quarterfinals, beat Dayton 42-30 in the semifinals Saturday to advance to the championship game.

The Challengers will meet Banks, which beat another Far West League squad, South Umpqua, 42-7. The title game is at 5 p.m. Saturday at Cottage Grove High School.

CLASS 4A: Two schools familiar to Marshfield will meet in the championship game after top-ranked Henley beat Scappoose 42-13 and No. 2 seed Marist Catholic topped Seaside 25-14.

Marist Catholic is a Sky-Em League foe against Marshfield in most team sports, but not football, where the Pirates are in a special district with Henley. Marshfield's run in the playoffs ended in a quarterfinal loss to Seaside a week earlier.

CLASS 5A: Top-ranked Wilsonville beat Summit 34-2 and No. 3 Mountain View topped Silverton 42-19 to advance to the title game, scheduled for 4:30 p.m. Friday at Hillsboro Stadium.

CLASS 6A: Central Catholic edged top-ranked and defending state champion West Linn 12-7 to advance to the championship game against No. 2 seed Tualatin, which beat Sherwood 42-23. The teams meet at 12:30 p.m. Friday at Hillsboro Stadium.

In the Columbia Cup, for the Class 6A teams ranked 17 through 32, Sunset will face South Medford at 1 p.m. Saturday at Cottage Grove. Sunset beat Barlow 50-21 and South Medford topped Clackamas 51-33.
