Liverpool will not sign Napoli’s Lorenzo Insigne, says Jurgen Klopp, as manager plays down transfer plans

Liverpool will not sign the highly rated Napoli forward Lorenzo Insigne, Jurgen Klopp has said, as the manager played down the chances of a spending spree at Anfield this summer.

Insigne is poised to leave his boyhood club at the end of the season as the manager Carlo Ancelotti considers an overhaul of his squad. The 24-year-old, who has scored 13 goals this season, has been linked with a move to both Liverpool and Chelsea under his former coach Maurizio Sarri, but Klopp has ruled out a move.

“We will not sign Lorenzo Insigne,” Klopp said on Thursday, speaking ahead of Liverpool’s Premier League game against Huddersfield on Friday night. “He’s a very good player, and he has a long term contract at Napoli. We will not even try it.

”Will it be the biggest transfer window for Liverpool? No.”

Liverpool must now win at Huddersfield to keep up the pressure ahead of Manchester City’s trip to Burnley this weekend.

“Huddersfield, Newcastle, Wolverhampton: we don’t need to summarise the season,” Klopp said. “There won’t be any regrets as long as we give our best and that’s what we’ve done all season.”
