KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Later tonight at the T-Mobile Center, the Big 12 will close out its women's basketball tournament and crown a champion.

Will that champion be Texas, the tournament's second seed that has won 11 of its last 12 games? Or fourth-seeded Iowa State, which beat ranked Baylor and Oklahoma teams in the quarterfinal and semifinal rounds?

Current Texas starters Shay Holle and Aaliyah Moore and DeYona Gaston, who won the conference's Sixth Player Award this season, were key members of a UT team that won the championship at the 2022 Big 12 Tournament. Iowa State seniors Emily Ryan and Nyamer Diew helped lead the Cyclones past Texas in last year's conference championship content.

Overall, Texas (29-4) is looking to claim its third Big 12 Tournament title. Iowa State (20-10) also won this event in 2000 and 2001.

This championship clash between Texas and Iowa State is set to tip off at 8 p.m. It will be televised on ESPN2. Follow along for live updates from Kansas City.

Can Texas close out another Big 12 postseason with a title?

So far this school year, the Big 12 farewell tour has gone well for Texas. The Longhorns were the victors at the Big 12 Championship Game in football, and UT had its soccer team claim the championship at that sport's Big 12 Tournament. The Big 12 doesn't not host a postseason volleyball tournament, but Texas cruised to that regular-season title. Texas was also the team atop the podium at the championship meets that the Big 12 has held in recent months for men's swimming and diving, women's swimming and diving and women's indoor track and field.

With a win tonight, the women's basketball team will add another Big 12 championship to its trophy case.

A founding member of the Big 12, Texas will officially leave for the Southeastern Conference this summer.
