Live updates: Colorado State-Colorado meet in late-night Rocky Mountain Showdown

BOULDER — The Rocky Mountain Showdown is the centerpiece of Week 3 in college football.

ESPN College GameDay and FOX Big Noon Kickoff are both previewing the day of football live from the University of Colorado campus.

The primetime game on ESPN is Colorado State vs. Colorado (8 p.m. on ESPN) in the battle for the Centennial Cup.

This is your home for updates through the day, beginning with the pregame shows and carrying all the way into the late night through the game.

How it happened

A look at how the Buffs rallied to beat CSU:

More: Colorado football stuns Colorado State with late comeback, 2OT win

Final

Colorado 43, Colorado State 35 (2OT)

The Rams scored a TD in the second OT on a Fowler-Nicolosi run, but it was wiped out by a 15-yard penalty on Tory Horton for a blindside block.

It pushed the Rams back to the 18 and CSU could not find the end zone. A 4th and goal from the 23 after a delay of game failed.

Colorado scores to start 2OT

An 18-yard strike from Sanders to Harrison gives CU a TD to start 2OT. The Buffs convert on a 2-point conversion, too, and it's 43-38 CU.

CSU must respond with TD and 2-pointer.

Colorado State responds

Brayden Fowler-Nicolosi with an 8-yard strike to Tory Horton. Rams kick the extra point to tie it at 35.

We're headed for 2OT.

Colorado touchdown on first possession

CU scores a TD on first possession of OT with a 3-yard pass from Sanders to Michael Harrison.

It's 35-28 CU. CSU must respond.

Overtime

We're headed to overtime with Colorado State and Colorado tied at 28.

CU gets the first attempt from the 25.

Colorado touchdown, tied game

CSU blows a coverage and Jimmy Horn Jr scores a 45-yard TD pass with 36 seconds to go.

CU connects on the two-point to tie the game. Seven plays, 98 yards in 1:30.

It's 28-28 with 36 seconds left.

CU's last chance

CU got the ball at own 2 with 2 minutes remaining down 8.

Colorado adds field goal

CU drives 52 yards but a sack stalls the drive and the Rams force a field goal.

Alejandro Mata is good from 42 yards. CSU lead is 28-20 with 7:33 to go.

Colorado State touchdown

CSU responds to CU's surprising short field goal choice. The Rams go 76 yards in 7 plays.

It ends in a 35-yard TD pass on 3rd and 7 from Fowler-Nicolosi to Dallin Holker. Some CSU players cup their hands to their ears after the score to the crowd.

It's 28-17 CSU with 11:22 to go in the game.

Colorado field goal

CSU stops CU on 3rd and goal from the 2 and the Buffs settle for a field goal. Alejandro Mata is good from 20 and the CSU lead is now 21-17 with 14:24 to go.

End 3 quarters

Colorado State 21, Colorado 14

CU has a third-and-goal from the CSU 2 to begin the 4th quarter.

CU interception

CSU throws an interception on 3rd and 7 in own territory. An ill-advised pass from Fowler-Nicolosi is snagged at the CSU 45.

CU and CSU miss field goals

CSU had a 52-yard FG attempt blocked and then CU drove down and missed a 39-yard FG attempt.

It's still 21-14 CSU with just over 4 minutes left in the third quarter.

Travis Hunter out of game

CU announced that Travis Hunter is out of the game and has been taken to a local hospital for further evaluation. He was injured on a late hit by Henry Blackburn in the first half, but did return at the time.

Hunter is CU's two-way star, who plays both sides of the field at cornerback and receiver.

CSU fumbles

CSU was driving and into the red zone for another score when Dallin Holker fumbled and CU's Shilo Sanders forced a fumble and CU recovered at its own 11.

Potential huge swing.

It's 21-14 CSU and a TD would have been a big margin.

Halftime

Colorado State 21, Colorado 14

CSU is out-gaining CU 262-94. Fowler-Nicolosi has 194 yards to 64 for Sanders.

Penalties have hurt CSU, with a whopping 11 for 133 yards.

Brayden Fowler-Nicolosi leads TD drive

BFN is taking his chance. The redshirt freshman QB leads an 89-yard TD drive that ends in a 15-yard strike to Louis Brown.

It's 21-14 CSU with 4:08 until half.

The drive was 89 yards in 7:27.

Did Shedeur Sanders poke Mo Kamara in the eye?

It appears Shedeur Sanders either attempted to or did poke CSU defensive player Mohamed Kamara in the eye, based on a video posted on Twitter.

End first quarter

Colorado State 14, Colorado 14

An absolutely wild quarter with punches back and forth (and almost some literal ones...).

CU faces a 4th and 4 from own 36 to start second quarter.

Colorado responds

This game is hot. Shedeur Sanders with a 24-yard TD pass to Xavier Weaver to tie the game 14-14 with 3:41 in the first quarter.

CSU was hit with a pass interference (on Ayden Hector) and unnecessary roughness (on Henry Blackburn) on one play. Blackburn injured Travis Hunter on the hit and Shedeur Sanders quickly got in his face.

Colorado State defensive touchdown

Wow this game is drunk!

Right after the CSU passing touchdown, Jack Howell forces a Travis Hunter fumble and Ron Hardge picks it up and runs it 45 yards for a TD.

CSU is now up 14-7 on CU with 6:16 to go in first quarter.

Tory Horton throws TD pass

CSU with a sensational answer to the CU pick-6, going 75 yards in 3 plays. The TD came on a fantastic trick play with Tory Horton throwing a beauty of a 25-yard TD pass to TE Dallin Holker.

CSU was practicing that play during the week. It was set up by a 51-yard strike from Brayden Fowler-Nicolosi to Louis Brown.

It's 7-7 with 7:12 left in first quarter.

Plenty of sunglasses jabs

Not surprisingly, CU is playing up the sunglasses theme.

Shilo Sanders put them on when he took the turnover throne and "Sunglasses at Night" has already played on the loudspeaker.

Colorado pick-6 touchdown

Brayden Fowler-Nicolosi's pass is intercepted by Shilo Sanders who returns it 80 yards for a touchdown.

CU takes 7-0 lead with 8:09 left in the first quarter.

CSU's Jordan Noyes had hit a 50-yard field goal, but a personal foul on CU put the CSU offense back on the field with a first-down at the CU 18. Brayden Fowler-Nicolosi then almost threw a reckless interception, but his knee was down before making a wild throw. A rare positive result from a sack.

It gave CSU a 2nd and 14 from the CU 22 but the very next play Fowler-Nicolosi threw a pick-6.

A huge swing from a possible 3-0 (or more) lead for CSU to a 7-0 CU edge.

CSU interception of Shedeur Sanders

CSU went three-and-out on first drive and punted. But on CU's 3rd and 11 on the ensuing drive Shedeur Sanders was hit as he threw and Henry Blackburn picked the pass off.

It's the first interception of the season thrown by Sanders. Blackburn is from Boulder.

It's a madhouse

Ralphie ran, Lil Wayne ran CU out of the tunnel and it is quite the scene at Folsom.

Kickoff at 8:20

The Tennessee-Florida game on ESPN is running long, so Colorado State and Colorado has been pushed back to an 8:20 p.m. kick local time.

Bradlee Van Pelt speech to team

Colorado State legend Bradlee Van Pelt spoke to the team in the leadup to the Rocky Mountain Showdown.

Deion Sanders stalks the field

Colorado coach Deion Sanders entered the field in pregame warmups to a big cheer from the CU fans. He stalked all the way down the CU end line, across the end zone and 20 yards up the CSU sideline before turning back.

Pregame pleasantries

There was a mini midfield exchange with some players getting into it, riling up the CU student section which launched into "F--- CSU" chants.

It never really escalated, but definitely set a tone.

College Football Playoff national championship trophy

The CFP trophy is on display at Folsom Field.

Yep, that's Lil Wayne

The list of celebrities is a long one for this one.

CSU's game-changer: Tory Horton

CSU will need to be at its best against the heavily favored Buffaloes. That will require finding ways to put the ball in the hands of star wide receiver and punt returner Tory Horton.

Horton has stayed loyal to Jay Norvell during his move from Nevada to CSU, and so far this year has nine receptions for 81 yards in the Rams' loss to Washington State. Look for CSU to find Horton 15 touches between passes, rushes and the return game against the Buffaloes, as it will take a special effort from across the roster to pull off the upset win. Getting the ball to their best player will be critical to opening up the offense.

Paddy Turner's cause

Colorado State punter Paddy Turner lost a friend to suicide recently and has dedicated his season to helping push the cause of suicide prevention.

He has a campaign to donate $20 for every punt inside the opponent's 20 yard-line and asks fans to join.

Turner shared Saturday morning that $280 has been raised so far.

Deion Sanders: Keep the cameras rolling at end of game

Deion Sanders is clearly not ready to let Jay Norvell's "hat and glasses off" comment go quietly. On College GameDay he said "when we meet at the conclusion of the game, just keep the cameras rolling."

College GameDay picks are in

The picks are in for the College GameDay crew. Special guest Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson ripped off his jacket to reveal a Colorado jersey and the selections were unanimous: Buffs in a route.

Lee Corso made his 400th headgear pick.

Colorado State fans at College GameDay

It's a CU crowd, but there's definitely some Ram flavor in Boulder for the ESPN backdrop.

Bradlee Van Pelt visit Colorado State team

CSU holds a "Ram Walk" the night before games where the team visits the field they will play at and walk the length, with some former players always joining.

CU week was always going to be big for visitors. Jay Norvell told The Coloradoan that Kevin McDougal and John Howell were going to speak to the team.

He also said there would be special visitors. There was an inkling who it would be and sure enough, Mr. Helmet Spike himself, Bradlee Van Pelt, joined the Rams.

Lee Corso: Go Rams

Legendary ESPN College GameDay personality Lee Corso showed up to open the pregame show with CSU Ram stickers on his cheeks. "Go Rams, Go Rams, Go Rams" he said to mostly boos from the crowd.

How to catch ESPN College GameDay and FOX Big Noon Kickoff

GameDay runs 7-10 a.m. on ESPN at the Business Field. The fan pit will open at 5 a.m.

Big Noon will be in the same location as last week at Farrand Field, located south of Folsom Field. Big Noon runs 8-10 a.m. on FOX and the fan pit will open at 5 p.m.

Jay Norvell: I wanted to send a message to our players

CSU football coach Jay Norvell tweeted late Friday night in response to the storm of attention around his comment about taking off hat and glasses to talk to grown ups.

A video of Reece Davis was tweeted where Davis said he felt Norvell was sending a message to his team. Norvell responded in agreement, saying "I wanted to send a message to our players and how we run our program."

As for the timing, his comments came on his weekly radio show on Wednesday night. That comes after the last media availability for local media with Norvell, so there has not been standard venue in which Norvell would be asked about his comments.

Deion Sanders hands out sunglasses

CSU football coach Jay Norvell went viral this week when he said on his weekly radio show that he takes his hat and glasses off when he talks to grown ups, which many perceived as a shot at Deion Sanders, who often conducts press conferences with sunglasses on.

Sanders and CU responded in kind, saying Norvell has made the game personal. Sanders then proceeded to hand out his own brand of sunglasses to his team, in addition to those on ESPN's set Friday during national sports talk shows.

CU students have added hats and sunglasses to the themed attire for Saturday's game.
