RECAP: Scores, highlights and analysis from Week 6 of Iowa high school football

Week 6 of the Iowa high school football season is in the books what a week it was.

We had reporters out throughout the state on Friday night to bring you the best action from top games everywhere in Iowa. But we couldn’t staff every single game, unfortunately.

Luckily, we have this live blog to bring you action from the games were aren’t able to be at in person.

Here’s a look at all the incredible highlights and big moments from throughout Friday night’s games.

Final scores starting to roll in

No. 4 Clear Lake takes down No. 9 Algona in a tight 29-28 game.

9:45 Southeast Polk survives a scare

Southeast Polk was tested but came out of Week 6 with a 38-35 win over Johnston. Rams remain perfect (6-0) while Johnston drops to 2-4 on the season with the loss.

9:38 Drama between Solon and Benton

9:35 Johnston clawing back against Southeast Polk

A short TD run from Johnston by Dalen Huston makes the game 35-38 in favor of No. 2 Southeast Polk.

Still plenty of time left in this one, with 4:24 left and the Dragons with all three timeouts.

9:30 Waukee Northwest slides past Valley

The Tigers drop to 1-5 on the season after a tight matchup with No. 9 Waukee Northwest (4-2). The Wolves came away with a 31-28 win.

9:26 Dowling tops Ankeny Centennial with a dramatic end

The Jags pushed the top-ranked Maroons to their limit, but a pick-6 on fourth and goal ends the game. Dowling wins 30-17.

Maroons remain perfect (6-0) with the win.

9:25 We’ve got a barn burner

Clear Lake takes a 29-28 lead over Algona thanks to a Derek Erpelding score and a 2-point conversion from Titan Schmitt.

Under 1:30 to play in that one.

9:17 Cedar Rapids Prairie down to Ankeny

9:15 Kennedy pulling away from Bettendorf

No. 7 Kennedy is dominating the game against No. 3 Bettendorf. They just scored again to go up 27-7. That was just a 3-yard drive after a pick from Kennedy set the offense up inside the 10.

9:15 Johnston keeping it tight on Southeast Polk

The Rams had a 10-point lead, but Johnston just won’t die. They’ve got the ball down just three points, 31-28, late in the third quarter.

9:10 Clear Lake ties it up against Algona

No. 4 Clear Lake ties it up against No. 9 Algona thanks to a stellar catch and a 2-point conversion.

That game's tied up halfway through the fourth quarter.

9:05 Dowling takes first lead of the night

Since Centennial took a 14-0 lead, Dowling has outscored the Jags 24-3. Dowling up 24-17 now in the fourth quarter after another Ra’Shawd Davis score, his third of the night.

Just over 6 minutes left to play.

8:55 Dowling and Centennial all tied up after three

We’ve got drama coming out in Ankeny. Top-ranked Maroons tied at 17 with No. 5 Centennial as they head to the final 12 minutes of action.

Ankeny Centennial had a 14-0 lead at one point, but the Maroons tied it at 17 all after a Ra'Shawd Davis touchdown run, his second of the night.

Drake DeGroote, scores on a keeper from short range. Tigers take a 28-21 lead over Waukee Northwest.

8:41 Algona extends its lead over Clear Lake

8:40 Caleb James scores second TD of the night, Waukee NW ties Valley

The Wolves tied the game up against Valley thanks to a 13-yard Caleb James score, his second of the night.

21-21 between Waukee Northwest and Valley halfway through the third quarter.

8:25 Southeast Polk takes lead as time expires in first half

A short field goal puts the Rams up 24-21 heading into the halftime break.

8:20 Kennedy finds the end zone after long drive

8:13 Johnston ties it up

That was quick. Just 17 seconds after cutting their deficit against Southeast Polk to seven points, Johnston scores again. Jacob Simpson makes a big-man catch, ripping the ball away from the Southeast Polk DB, for the score.

Johnston and the Rams all tied up at 21 with 43 seconds to go in the first half.

8:10 Johnston hanging tough with No. 2 Southeast Polk

On third and long, Will Nuss unloads from 30 yards out, finds Dalen Houston in the end zone and threads it between double coverage for the score.

Johnston still down 14-21, but they’re fighting. Just one minute left in the half out there.

Dragons recovered a fumble on the ensuing kickoff too, so they’re set up in good position to tie it up at the break.

8:08 Dowling hits a FG heading into the half

Dowling, the top-ranked team in our Super 10 rankings, is down 17-10 to Ankeny Centennial at the half.

8:05 Algona takes lead over Clear Lake

Alex Manske finds Devin Larsen from 33 yards out to take a 14-13 lead on the No. 4 team in Class 3A late in the second quarter.

8:02 Valley retakes the lead late in the second quarter

Jayden McGregory takes a short pass, makes a man miss and scampers into the end zone for a 9-yard score for Valley. They take a 21-14 lead over No. 9 Waukee Northwest. Less than a minute left in the first half in that one.

8:00 Kennedy ties it up with Bettendorf

This top-10 matchup in Class 5A is already proving to be pretty fun.

7:55 Centennial tacks on to its lead over Dowling

The Jags nailed a field goal from 38 yards out to push their lead over the No. 1 team in Iowa to 10 points.

7:53 Bettendorf takes lead over Cedar Rapids Kennedy

A big game in Class 5A, No. 3 Bettendorf takes an early lead on No. 7 Kennedy.

7:51 Waukee Northwest pulls even with Valley

Caleb James finds the end zone on a run up the middle from three yards out. That ties things up at 14 out in West Des Moines.

4:22 left in the half in that one.

7:50 Southeast Polk takes lead over Johnston

CJ Phillip finds paydirt again, this time from 18 yards out, to give the Rams a 14-7 lead over Johnston.

Just about 8 minutes left in the opening half from Southeast Polk.

7:45 Dowling isn't going away just yet

The Maroons claw back into the game with a touchdown from Ra'Shawd Davis, his 14th rushing score of the season. Dowling had to convert on fourth down multiple times on that scoring drive.

Ankeny Centennial still up 14-7 over the No. 1 team in the state.

The No. 5 Jags take a two-score lead on the top-ranked team in Class 5A thanks to another long touchdown run from Elijah Porter, his second of the night.

Centennial up 14-0 late in the opening frame.

7:25 Valley takes early lead on No. 9 Waukee Northwest

The Tigers grabbed a 7-0 lead thanks to a 20-yard scamper from Damon Head that found the end zone. It's Head's third score of the season.

Under three minutes to go in the first quarter out in West Des Moines.

Southeast Polk responds to tie it up on a very very quick drive, capped by a 22-yard touchdown run from CJ Phillip.

All tied up at 7 there in the first quarter.

It's 7-0 there thanks to an Elijah Porter score.

7:15 Johnston takes lead over Southeast Polk

Will Nuss finds his tight end, Jacob Simpson, for the pair’s sixth score of the season. It’s the 10th overall TD pass for Nuss.

Dragons take a 7-0 lead over No. 2 Southeast Polk. About halfway through the opening quarter.

7:10 Ames finds paydirt against Ottumwa

It's Jamison Poe again. Are we shocked? I'm not.

7:05 One play, one score for Underwood

No. 5 Underwood takes a lead on No. 6 Treynor on the first offensive play of the night for them.

By our count, this is the first score of the night around the state.

6:30 p.m. Weather looks good in most of Iowa

Not much on the radar tonight across most of the state, but it was a bit of a hot one out there today. Temperatures in Des Moines reached a new record high for Sept. 29, all the way up to 91 degrees, according to the NWS.

Though there is a chance for rain up north in and around Sioux City.
