Lisbon's Rutherford reachs grand milestone; M-W splits

Dec. 21—TUPPER LAKE — Lisbon Central junior Cooper Rutherford scored 17 points to join the Lisbon Hardwood Club and the Section 10 1,000 Career Point Circle of honor on Wednesday night in nonleague game a Tupper Lake.

He couldn't fully enjoy it as he was playing through a stomach bug which is going through the Golden Knight ranks and Tupper Lake used a combined 57 points from Tom Peterson and Garrett Pelky in recording an 83-50 victory.

Lisbon Coach Bob Jordan offered his appreciation for the efforts that Rutherford has put fourth in developing his talents and athleticism. Rutherford made the move from the modified to the varsity ranks as a freshman and became the seventh Golden Knight Boys Basketball player to score 1,000 varsity points.

He joins Craig Wood (1,382), NBA Championship Player and Coach Rick Carlisle (1,200 plus), Brent Knight (1,157), Jeff Falardeau (1,157), Mark Akins (1,108) and Dwayne Donaldson (1,006).

"The stomach bug is going through us. Cooper Rutherford was in rough shape tonight and he tried hard to play through," said Lisbon Coach Bob Jordan.

In Wednesday's Garrett Pelky scored 15 of his 25 points leading a 29-point outburst by Tupper Lake in the second quarter. Tom Peterson led the Lumberjacks with 32 points followed by Mikey Corneau (16), Ashton Clark (8) and Tyler LaPlante (2).

Cooper Rutherford's 17 points led the Knights and Connor Flack and Isaiah White followed with 10 and seven. AJ Donaldson (6), Tanner Fonda (5) and Coby Mills (2) rounded out the scoring.

M-W SPLITS

In an NAC doubleheader at the "The Hive" in Madrid-Waddington the Lady Yellowjackets downed St. Regis Falls 61-15 and the Jacket Boys were downed by Colton-Pierrepont 48-M-W 37.

M-W 61 — SRF 15: Kaitlin Putman and Erica Bates combined for 22 and 12 points to lead M-W Girls who stayed unbeaten in the NAC East Division. Reese Durant and JV call-up Addison McKnight each scored six points followed by Zara Cordwell with four and Emma Manson with two.

Deanna Wilson scored all 15 points for St. Regis Falls.

C-P 48 — M-W 37: The Colts took a 10-9 first quarter lead and methodically added to their advantage in the last three quarters. Eric Friedel and Nate Smith tallied 24 and nine points to lead the winners and both netted six points in a 14-9 second quarter advantage. Rounding out the C-P offense were: Owen Peacock (2), Cody Trimm (6) and Ty Farns (3).

Kolby Todd and Jamison Zysik scored nine and eight points for M-W and Jakob and Ryan Mayette combined both netted six. Cole Smith and Tyree Hawkins each added three and Ian Johns Jr. chipped in two.

"We struggle to score and we have about a three-minute stretch in every half where we don't score and it hurs us. However we are making tiny steps and I am certainly proud of the effort the kids give every day," said M-W Coach Aaron Jones.
