Lions injury update: 2 starting CBs miss practice

Just when you thought it was safe to believe the worst of the Detroit Lions injuries at cornerback was over, the news from Thursday’s practice hits like Chris Spielman in his Lions prime.

Two starting cornerbacks missed Thursday’s practice session. The absence of slot corner AJ Parker was not entirely unexpected. Parker left last Sunday’s game against the Los Angeles Rams with a neck injury and the initial thought was he could miss some time. But Parker was a limited participant in Wednesday’s practice, which bred some optimism that the undrafted rookie could play when the Philadelphia Eagles visit Ford Field in Week 8.

Joining Parker on the sidelines for Thursday’s practice is fellow undrafted rookie Jerry Jacobs. He has played pretty well in emergency starting duty, though Jacobs did take some lumps in the Week 7 loss. Jacobs was listed with an illness, something he cleared up on Twitter later on Thursday,

The Lions are painfully thin at CB after already losing starter Jeff Okudah and then his replacement, Ifeatu Melifonwu, one week later. Untested Mark Gilbert and converted safety Bobby Price represent the depth currently on the active 53-man roster.
