Liam Hendriks is returning to the Chicago White Sox, who are expected to activate the All-Star closer from the IL

Liam Hendriks is coming back.

The Chicago White Sox and their All-Star closer indicated Sunday evening that he will be reinstated from the injured list ahead of Monday’s game against the Los Angeles Angels at Guaranteed Rate Field.

Hendriks posted a video on Instagram of him pitching, followed by Monday’s date. Shortly after, the Sox official Twitter account posted 31 green hearts — Hendriks wears No. 31 — followed by a video captioned: “Your journey is an inspiration. We couldn’t be more proud. Welcome back, Liam Hendriks!”

Hendriks disclosed in January he was diagnosed with non-Hodgkin lymphoma and said May 3 that it was Stage 4. He announced April 20 that he was cancer-free.

Now he’s set to return to the active roster.

Hendriks is regarded as one of the top relievers in baseball. He led the American League with 38 saves in 2021 and was second with 37 saves last season. He is a three-time All-Star, including each of the last two seasons with the Sox.

His return is remarkable news beyond the on-field impact.
