Lexington, three individuals advance out of Division I sectional golf tournament

SYCAMORE — The Lexington Minutemen are headed to the Division I district boys golf tournament.

The Minutemen shot 352, the fifth-best score at the Division I sectional tournament held at Sycamore Springs Golf Course. They finished behind sectional champion Findlay (328), Lima Shawnee (345), Wapakoneta (349) and Tiffin Columbian (351), and those five teams advanced to the district tournament on Oct. 11 at Shawnee Country Club.

Griffin Hughes led the Minutemen with a 45-37-82. Jackson Durchik (43-45-88), Nathan Dawson (39-49-88) and Jack Wyant (46-48-94) had the other counting scores, while Levi Davis (57-53-110) was the drop score.

Madison's Nick Maglott and Landon Goad, along with Mansfield Senior's Andrew Cawrse, advanced as individual scores that were not part of the top-five teams. Maglott shot a 40-42-82 and took third in a two-hole playoff. Goad shot a 45-43-88 and took fifth in the two-hole playoff while Carse fired a 44-44-88 and was fourth in the playoff.

Findlay's Payson Dotson was the medalist with a 37-39-76.

Madison finished three strokes behind Lexington for final team qualifying spot. The Rams shot 355 as Josh Baglott had a 47-45-92, Josh Atwell shot a 46-47-93 and Liam Stone had a 50-46-96 to round out the scores.

One team, and one individual not on the qualifying team, will advance from the district tournament to the state tournament, held at The Ohio State University Scarlet Course on Oct. 20-21.
