LedgeRock Golf Club's Josh Anderson qualifies for U.S. Mid-Amateur

Aug. 15—Josh Anderson of LedgeRock Golf Club shot a 4-under 68 to finish second in Monday's U.S. Mid-Amateur qualifier at Whitford Country Club in Exton and earn a berth in the next month's event.

The 42nd U.S. Mid-Amateur will be held Sept. 9-14 at Sleepy Hollow CC in Scarborough, N.Y.

Andy Butler won Monday's tournament with a 7-under 65. The top five qualified.

Anderson, 2020 Berks Amateur champ who teed off on No. 10, made birdies on three of his final four holes.

He qualified for the U.S. Mid-Am for the third time, having also made it in 2011 and 2015.

"I'm looking forward to it," Anderson said via a release from the Golf Association of Philadelphia, which administered the event. "Yesterday I wanted to play to warm up, and (my son, Dean) didn't want to play, so we went bowling instead. I did manage to hit golf balls for 30 minutes. Guess that's all I needed."

Anderson, 43, who lives in Morgantown, hit a gap wedge from 120 yards to within 3 feet of the hole on the par-4 sixth for the first of his closing birdies. On the par-4 seventh, he hit a sand wedge from 110 yards to within 4 feet. On the par-5 ninth, he had a sand wedge from 90 yards to 4 feet.

"Relatively stress-free coming in I guess," Anderson said.

He opened with a bogey on No. 10, but made birdies on 12 and 15 to make the turn at 1-under.
